Oil cooler DIY
Oil cooler DIY
Been quoted £7-800 for pipes and labour (don't have figures in front of me) and £900ish for cooler if it needs to be replaced. Thinking about attempting this myself over the holidays. Anyone else done this? Can anyone point me in the direction of a DIY? Thoughts? Don't really want to be forking out big bucks this time of year.
Re: Oil cooler DIY
Calling around trying to locate a Forge kit but can't find anyone with one on the shelf and looking at February now. Anyone know where I can get one off the shelf? Alternatively I'd be happy with OEM, anyone got a part number?
Re: Oil cooler DIY
there is also the jhm line kit available from the states-but obviously there would be a lead time involved
look up radtec also as an alternative oil cooler ...

Re: Oil cooler DIY
Thanks Arthur, Radtec have them in stock. Does anyone have a part number for the hoses?
Re: Oil cooler DIY
Don’t go for forge as your paying way over the top.
The oil cooler is a setrab 19 row oil cooler. Although you can fit a 25 row version. The pipes can bought separately very easily.

It’ll cost you less than 500 for the whole lot.

Re: Oil cooler DIY
Anyone got tips on doing the work?
I'm assuming:
Dump the oil
Pull the bumper off
Remove the old cooler from the block??
Refit the new
Top up the oil
Good to go??

Due to location, it creates a new noise at idle.

Re: Oil cooler DIY
Hey Jony, it's very straight forward as you state. But you may able to recondition the cooler if the hose joints havn't welded on by corrossion to the cooler. 9/10 chance that it's fcuked though. These coolers and pipes are like rocking horse sh1t. You need to order one now if you want to fix it by Christmas. When you've fitted your new one, apply wax oil to the joints. Good luck.

Thanks cov. Radtec actually have a few of them in the shelf. I'll have it Wednesday.

Re: Oil cooler DIY
I got a replacement hose from Audi for £168 inc vat. Bought a dremel and a small cutting disc to remove the old hose without damaging the threads on the cooler, took about 2 hours to do and saved myself a few quid in the process.
