Climate control cant cope

Post by dogtanion » Sat Aug 16, 2014 8:32 pm

Hi

How do people find the climate control generally ? Particularly if you've got the cabriolet, which I have.

It seems much less effective than the family workhorse Honda CRV 2005. Eco mode blows slightly unpleasant warm air around the car and aircon doesn't really seem to give a good chill. I've had the aircon checked and regassed and it still struggles.

Is this just a factor of having so much heat coming from under the bonnet, or should I be looking for something to fix ?

Thanks.

Mine makes copious amounts of "dew" on the outside on the windscreen if left to really go for it !!

Admittedly its not a hairdressers version but it should still freeze your boyfriends moobs off !!!

I found it really good - does take a while to kick in if the car has been sitting in 45 deg heat, more recently though it started giving up after about an hour - was quoted a whapping great amount and required dash removal to repair. That and a lot of other "maintenance" issues was the catalyst (excuse) for trading to a new one

It's no different. Econ on means air con off.

Sounds like your aircon needs regassing, which should be checked every couple of years or so as the refrigerant gas does slowly leak.

Very amusing that man :)

Sounds like I need to have another look at it and see if there's something wrong.

Just had it regassed a couple of weeks back, so it isn't that.

Check the gas pressure yourself £20 halfords, comes with gauge and hose, I did this for my other car and the Mrs, one of our cars was recharged but after checking I found It was still low so went back to them and they did it again. You can buy the gas from Halfords also

even though you have had it regassed it still may not work properly , there are several things which could cause this...a likely thing is the condenser radiator in front of the cooling rad may have the fins deteriorated or rotted away basically so that the recirculating gas isnt cooled enough to condense back to liquid enough so the system progressively gets poorer till it stops working , i had the same problem with my mondeo run around , the A/C would be absolutely freezing for a few mins and then after 10 mins stopped working , I found that all the fins were gone and only the tubes left , new condenser , and its brand new again cools flat out the whole time ,
worth looking at the fins , you can see it through the upper and lower grill ( see pic ) , though the oil cooler is in front of it at the bottom. the dryer (dessicant to remove moisture ) may also be overloaded with water which affects operation also , but shouldnt really be overloaded unless the system has been empty of gas due to a leak which will allow moisture in ,as obviously its a high pressure sealed system like your fridge

been reading the post again, , you said it was recharged , did they tell you if it was emtpy ? if it was then it may have already leaked out again , the system can lose 10% gas a year due to connections heating cooling etc and will stop working at a certain pressure to save the pump , so it still may have had some gas or none atall , depending on the charging system used they should either have pulled a vacuum on the system and held it for 10 mins at least, or pressurised with nitrogen , again to maintain a static reading if either of those failed they should never have filled it without checking for leaks , if its a big leak it may be obvious especiallly with nitrogen as it will obviously hiss or we recharged it with just enough gas to run the system to confirm the system was operational and added dye and checked with UV lamp .
even before recharging if it was still showing pressure they should have recovered whatever was left to see the quantity compared to spec and then pulled a vaccuum for a good long time (while doing something else ) this will have drawn moisture from the dryer and it will have shown up on the moisture content reader or coloured indicator on the equipment , there are several units out there some simple some excellent
i suggest you contact the company that did it and ask what they did
