stuck?

Post by s3marc » Fri Sep 21, 2007 10:14 am

I am tempted to do this..... but bit concerned that they will get stuck open if not used - presumably when it needs and MOT or service, I should reconnect the pipe, otherwise it will be seen that it has been tampered with.

So when I reconnect them say for an MOT in 2 years time.... will the flaps be stuck open and fail the MOT on noise emissions?

Highly unlikely, I think the bearings on the acuators will remain free, if not WD40, job done.
You will reconnect for serviceing anyway, so they will get some use now and then.

Hi guys,

I can confirm that my B6 S4 DOES NOT have the exhaust valves discussed.

I took the rear boxes off their rubber hangers and pulled them down, but there were no valves to be seen???!!

She only has 23k on the clock so I wouldnt have thought that the exhausts have been replaced with cheaper replacements??

Anyone got any thoughts?

Hi,

Its a manual. Replacement exhausts? Really?? It has 23k on the clock?!! Are the exhausts likely to go that quickly? Getting worried the car has been clocked now. Bought her from Stockport Audi.....noticed on the vehicle reg docs that she has had 5 previous owners. Is there any way to check if shes been clocked??

De-Acutated for about 600miles....... So does anyone get any booming aboout 3k rpm when lifting off the throttle. Mainly when just starting for the first 15mins. .... Wouldnt call it a burble more like a light rumble.

Perhaps the valves moving or vibrating at that rev window??

cheers

J

I've completed the mod tonight and then drove the car a few miles and must admit I was a bit disappointed to tell you the truth. There was a slight difference in sound but nothing to wet myself over. I had the 80 ECU upgrade today when carrying out the car's first inspection service and thought the car seemed to be smoother and rev more freely but after this I carried out the valve mod and couldn't tell any real difference.

Hi Jezzer. I don't think you can expect a boost in any performance. Personally, I like it for the noise (and I don't have to press S button everytime on start up unless I also want improbved throttle response) and I do feel there is less hesitation with the engine below 4000rpm. Like you said, nothing to wet yourself over. I'm not sure if the ECU ver 80 has much to do with it as well but I do hear people are not happy with the performance of the car after the upgrade...it's as if it's detuned! Mine is still on ver 50 and I'm told I don't have to do any upgrade(or ecu recall they called it) coz there aren't any when I went in a month ago (?!@@! I'm puzzled coz my car was hooked up for them to check if the ECU needed an upgrade, may be coz I'm in Aust). just my 2c. cheers.
