If I apply vacuum to this pipe that goes down under the airbox I lose vacuum, is that normal ?
I am getting loads of vacuum to the inlet flaps and I'm not loosing any at all.
How can I get two conflicting fault codes that say the inlet flaps on bank 1 are both stuck shut and stuck open ??

It says intermittent, when was it last carbon cleaned? Is it getting stuck due to carbon build up?

i have no records of it ever being carbon cleaned, its done 106k miles.
when there is no vacuum in the system i can move the inlet flaps very easy with pushing my finger against the plunger, if i reconnect the vacuum pipe that plunger becomes rock solid and i can no longer push it.
i find it hard to believe it is actually getting stuck as it moves so easily when there is no vacuum applied.

im starting to think its the selonoid at the front of the engine that controls the inlet flaps that is broken. do i have to take the bumper off to change it ?

when i try to test the inlet flaps with VCDS all i get is VCDS constantly and quickly cycling between off and on, absolutely nothing happens to the manifold flaps even if i put my finger on them and try to push slightly. its like once the vacuum is applied the manifold flaps slam shut and never open.

have you checked the sticky at the top of this section
gives a good guide how to check your flaps, solenoid etc and to use blocks 42 etc ...

just a reply to say how i have fixed my issue, sick of reading posts where people have asked for help and not had the decency to reply with how they fixed the issue !
anyway my issue was the vacuum solenoid for the flaps at the front of the engine. it was a real pain to change due to limited space.
no more drc light.
