Cheers Clive. I'll get Awesome GTI to check this out this afternoon assuming they have VAGCOM & report back on the findings tonight.

I just did! I assume you mean somone with an OBDII flashed map... I would be keen to see too, I am Midlands (Northants) based if someone wants to use my Vagcom...

So far then we know for sure that a re-map via the ecu removal isn't detectable?

Paul will check with Awesome if his is detectable via the OBD?
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Defo getting more interesting. The re-maps on my E60 M5 were direct with ECU removal & the very 1st ones from DMS on B7 RS4's were again via ECU removal, however they've now got this sorted through OBD. Curious to know if VAGCOM shows OBD flashes & how if this is the case an ECU out re-map is not shown, as surely the ECU flash is exactly the same regardless of the route?? One is simpler going via the diag port, but both routes actually flash the ECU. :?

Would not go as far as to say that Varsity, not least if you drive the car or rev it to the red somone could tell instantly  You dont need to send the ECU away to Audi GMBH to find that out... Maybe just less obvious at first glance and less likely to be picked up from routine serving or maintenance.. not least there is quite a lot of trim under the bonnet to be removed to physically look at the ECU's if you are looking for something in the first place...

All are "detectable" some just less so than others maybe... its not a biggy as its unlikely a tech would notice the flash clock anyway unless there were 40 instead of 2 or something... :?

No, its not flashed with the ECU remomal its coded in "background de-bugging mode" or BDM completely different to 'flashing'

That's interesting Jason & i'm defo now interested to investigate this a little more, as i thought that both routes accessed exactly the same area in the ECU & therefore no difference in the signatures, however one route to this area was easier than the other.

To simplify, the new code via both routes, resides in exactly the same area of the ECU, it's just accessing it that's different.

I know from watching that in DMS's case, they have to download a <beep> load of code from the car before they can start (takes about 45mins) & then they alter the relevant area in some kind of background mode (can't recall what term they used), so the whole ECU is not flashed. IIRC when Audi do any software update, they do just flash the whole ECU, hence i guess how VAGCOM can pick this up.

Will hopefully know more later today & if Awesome GTI have VAGCOM & can do this, i'll ask them for a screenshot, get them to email it to me & then post the results tonight.

Dont tell us how good it is,  I might not stay married!!

Very interested in what Awesome find with Vagcom... I cant say I understand this bit.. :? but its usefull to for members to consider any map with both eyes open...

Just back from a spirited run to the other side of Hereford and back, the extra torque is great on the twisties, just a shame there was too much traffic..

Awesome had a look at the exact same screen you posted & it said 1 attempt & 1 success so i'm guessing it has not included the re-map, as my car has been re-mapped twice by DMS.

That said, i can't be sure & won't be checking if my dealer flashed the ECU during PDI, as i did state i wanted any required software updates uploading to my car & according to VAGCOM my car was manufactured in Jan 2007 although only registered in May 2007, so it would most likely have needed the jerky when cold upgrade & the nav upgrade.

Nothing really proved either way with any certainty, however i know for sure my car was re-mapped by DMS on 2 seperate occasions & these were a few weeks apart, as i had the initial re-map & then DMS found some extra poke after further testing on Simons car (simple1) so it went back again.

I guess we're none the wiser, however Awesome confirmed what i'd been told by Audi & 2 dealers & that being that Audi DO NOT really hold any accurate record of ECU flashes either at dealers level or corporate etc. so unless a car had a very high number listed, it really would not raise any kind of doubt.

Does the Flash count not reset itself if the battery is disconnected for 30mins to allow the ecu to completely power down?

Isnt the fact of whether these ecu mod's are detectable or not irrelevant, considering the raised Rev limit is fully detectable which would surely set the tec's alarm bells ringing.

Can MRC remap the ecu without raising the rev limit?
