18.86 per litre for your information was what i was quoted, hence the 90 PREMUIM over what edge is readily available for from outside sources,Quantum out of a drum and billed for castrol edge are my findings had i not walked into the workshop just prior to it being poured into my car, anything else you would like me to clarify?

Yes please, could I have a breakdown of:
  • How many millilitre of oil spillage from filling up?
Number of paper sheets used to soak up said spillage?
Was the paper recycled to meet ISO 1400 standards?
Quantity of Brake cleaner utilised to clean the associated oil smear?
Was the brake cleaner atomised during application process?
The Isopropanol content of Brake cleaner to ensure it meets VAG approved standards?
I think that'd be all for now :nodder:

Ahhhhhh - now you've clarified it, I bow to your earlier opinion. And foook me, that IS a premium - did they provide a pot of Vaseline before presenting you the bill?

Apologies for any confusion. :beerchug:

Eeeek - wtf is an official Audi stealership doing using Quantum? Quantum should ONLY be used by the independent trade sector. Official dealers should only use 'premium' brand lubes - such as Castrol (which should be their SLX Professional Powerflow range), Shell, Mobil, etc.

Secondly, Quantum is NOT Castrol. OK, it may well be blended and packaged by BP Lubricants plc (whom own the Castrol brand) at their Belgium blending plant, and it may also use the Castrol Technical helpdesk at Castrol's head office in Swindon - but Quantum LongLife III is definately NOT the same as either Castrol Edge nor Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow LongLife III. All Quantum brews use inferior base stocks and additives packages compared to their 'equivalent' Castrol brews. Compare the TDS from them both. :bigblink:

The first work sheet that you posted says 'suspension pipes corroded' not rods. A lot of people will jump on the DRC bashing wagon because rightly so, the first two generations were not reliable coupled with poorly trained dealers who risked/did further damage to the system. So people moved their alliance to non OEM products. The third generation DRC however is much more reliable and I am yet to read of any failures. Anyway that aside, I interpreted the work sheet as the pipe which carries the hydraulic fluid to the central valve has aesthetical corrosion, this does not constitute a DRC failure. You could simple remove the wheel and clean/treat the corrosion with a product like Bilt Hamber Deox Gel and re-seal. I'm sure Unit 20 will advise correctly on what to do as they have plenty of DRC experience.

As others have alluded to, there are ways to help reduce dealer service cost and keep those Audi stamps in the SH Book. I provide my own oils and get them to price match (where ever possible) independent prices for things like Aircon servicing. It all helps and those Audi stamps will pay you back when it comes to re-sale as your potential market audience will be greater.
You are totally right it's the pipes not rods. But still £900??
I've just had my OSF suspension pipe replaced free of charge today, Audi goodwill :jump: .

After getting quotes from a number of Indy garages and talking to MRC, it seems coventry Audi have totally under estimated the job that needs doing and have quoted well under what they should be charging me. So I am going to ring them up and get car booked in and ask them for Written quote.

Two weeks after it was serviced by Newcastle Audi, found the OSF pipe misting. I rang to book my car in, but wanted speak to their service manager to ask how they could have missed that and about missing fixings under the bonnet again. Got me booked in earlier than their service desk and told me to ask for him when I drop the car off. I was expecting to pay for the repair, but was told it is covered by Audi goodwill. The fact that my car have only ever been serviced by them for over 6 years and only covered 36K miles helps.

Car in for work today at Coventry Audi. Within an hour they phoned me "hi the work is actually a lot bigger than we originally thought, it's going to cost closer to £3000".

Luckily we got a written quote, with 20% discount! and after an hour and half of tooing and throwing! they are honouring the quote.

So £1200 for the work inc VAT.

Thank you Audi :-)
