If you do a lot of motorway miles then you will get the maximum benefit from longlife servicing,if you do a lot of town driving it will come on early, mine came on at 9k after 11/2 years in my last car so i changed it to normal intervals

Since the car usually comes on longlife anyway and the car has longlife oil in already from factory you may as well do the longlife until the first service and see what sort of mialage you get and make the decision to stay on it or not at the first service.

I have had several Audis on longlife (A6 2.7T, S4 4.2 and RS4). On my RS4 at 5000 miles it was predicting service at 19000 miles but that was after several good long trips (Leeds - Goodwood etc.). Now after a spell involving commuting and town driving it is at 18000 miles. Over the three cars and about 9 years 100,000 miles + in total it has always ended up at around 17,500. I found when my dealers moved from the Longlife II spec (0W - 30) to the 5W-30 of Mobil 1 ESP, Castrol Longlife III or Edge 5W-30 that my oil consumption dropped noticeably and that the consumption settles down after a few thousand miles. You would expect a big engine to use more than a smaller one I think. RS4 magnificent!

Bringing back the Oil thing from the dead. I had my car out over christmas. Day after boxing day 7.30 in the evening so dealer was closed. dipstick showed way below minimum using the prescribed method in the book. So bought the grade I remebered as being the right one 0W-40. oops. Have I done anything too bad i put in something like a liter or more?

Mike,

As long as you have not over filled.

You should use Edge 5-30w, which is the consumer version of the bottle that came with the car.

If you did not get the poach, somebody nicked it !

What is the oil capacity on the RS4?
I plan to change the oil and filter at the end of the month as that will be 6 months and about 2.5K miles.
Reading the other thread about engine trouble I am going to opt out of the Longlife service plan.
Think I might try Fuchs Titan GT1 5w-30 VW504.00/507.00 in place of the Castrol, this gets good reviews stateside.

Just a tad shy of 10L if you change the oil and filter.

Does anyone know the part numbers for the filter and sump plug washer?

Is the filter easy to get to and remove?

I'm planning on giving mine an oil / filter change on Saturday.
Cheers,

Oil filter (incl. gasket) part no.: 079 198 405 B =£11.46 plus VAT (£13.47 incl. VAT)
Oil drain plug part no.: N 016 027 6 =£1.03 plus VAT (£1.21 incl.VAT)
Oil drain plug seal part no.: N 013 815 7 =£0.32 plus VAT (£0.38 incl VAT)

Don't know how easy as I have not tried yet.

According to the RS4 Spec Sheet from Audi the oil capacity incl. filter is 8 litres.

Thanks for that, parts are in stock and I collect them on Saturday.

Now, does anyone know if the filter is going to be a pig to get to and get off?
Cheers,

If it's like on the V8 S4 it's from above and should be easy. You may need a special socket though if it's anything like the same setup BMW use (a big plastic nut that is easy to damage)

OK - here is a guide:

I guess you will be able to find the sump plug OK.
The only tool you need that is a bit out of the ordinary is a 32mm socket, which is a bit of a big beastie.

Thanks Glyn, that's just perfect. I should be able to get hold of a 32mm socket OK. Cheers.
