Didn't you have yours fitted the same time as your exhaust? If so, how can you even hear it?

Oh, and plus whatever (lost count). I'd pay that much for either a lovely bit of carbon under the bonnet or for the induction roar so to get both it's a bargain!

I fitted the exhaust and thought it was loud (non res non valved) and then fitted the airbox and couldn't hear the exhaust any more lol! had so many positive comments about the noise!! people were actually trying to get in front of me on our road trip as it sounded so good lol! im waiting for a video from a play i had with a GTR in Italy! The dog cam was under his spoiler facing back so should make for good viewing and sound.

No Mike I fitted it the day after I got the car home so I could enjoy the ROARRRRRRR, so its been on 3 weeks and 2 prior to the AmD tweaks.

Oh ok. I only fitted mine the day before I got my exhaust done and wished I'd done it years ago!

I removed the power flap and plugged the vacuum line. Could it be that it does not know what's happened to that? Is that something I can code out?

The roar from the intake is second to none!

Double check the vacuum plug - if it's losing any then the flaps will slowly close. Their default position is closed and it needs vacuum to open then up.
If you have vag-com, then log the manifold "requested" and "actual" position. Requested will flip flop between two target values representing open and closed. As long as the actual is broadly similar it'll run fine. Otherwise you'll get a manifold position error.

Also caused by any other failure in the vacuum system (exhaust flaps, SAI, one way check valve under the manifold).

Finally - the airbox power flap is just a simple actuator with no feedback to the ecu.

As an aside, if there is a standard paper non oiled filter available then I'll definitely get one of them.

Noted, I will check it all out and post results in a new thread. Thanks for the info mate.

So do piper cross offer a paper filter for this? Is there even such a thing as a paper cone filter?

You are correct (as usual!) The S2000 does have an OEM cone paper filter.

Whilst I'm not keen on oiled filters, I'd also be concerned about putting an undersized filter in there too. The S2000s filter would have been designed to flow enough air for circa 250bhp, I'd very much doubt that there was enough headroom in the design to flow enough air for 8 cylinders with 400+bhp.

I know that you can use ITG's tri foam filter without the recommended oil in environments where there is little dust. I remember reading something about oil and filters in their catalogue?

Very good point on the sizing - it was just the only one I knew of and so at least they do exist :) (even if in the wrong size).
Dead easy to test though - just Vag Com log the maf with stock/oiled filter in up to 8k rpm. repeat with s2000 and see the difference.
