Not if you have to swap the face plate over Dave.

Looks like this one isn't needing a face plate swith - A4/S4 /RS4:

Yes, that'd save a lot of time/hassle and Dave’s original 15 minute estimate would be about right.

One thing to bare in mind - It's my understanding that the SDS is a firmware hack for those eBay units, so if the car was to ever be updated with later firmware you'd lose the SDS feature; thus requiring a later firmware hack to be re-applied. If you go for an H version RNS-e then it is an SDS compliant unit and should keep the feature regardless of updates.

Yes Sam - I knew that would be a firmware hack - but that's interesting on the H version. I kinda had a guy feeling that would be lost on future updates - the guy is gonna throw the SDS in for nothing - however, I'll search further on a H version...

Nice one, Sam...

G and H is SDS compliant for Euro RNS-e - rest are hacked from what I can tell...

No problem Neil, that sounds about right.

It took me over 6 months to find an H version and the usual channels know that they carry a premium too

30 mins on eBay and Google confirms that, Sam! Bugger.

SDS - mmmm, with Bluetooth Siri via the microphone it's somewhat more intelligent. But the SDS currently is archaic; but I guess it's how you use the RNS-e daily and if SDS figures in to that...

But my OEM mantra kicks in and a hacked non H would be a bit void for where I want my RS4 wants to be...

Enter engineering mode on the RNS-e and rewrite the flash file hack to the RNSE??

A big thank you to Shopp. After I drilled out all the holes in the donor front discs he sent over to me and fitted them today, all brake judder is gone! :)

Question(s) time guys:

1. I can't stand the metal part on the RS4 standard wheel. I turn in to roads etc one-handed most of the time and for parking etc I do the same. I normally use the bottom of the wheel a lot so the metal drives me mad and I don't use that part of the wheel at all. I am contemplating having the TTRS MFSW wheel fitted, which will include relocating the Sport button to the dash and a new right stalk for all the menu functions. It is strong money (that I should be saving, not spending currently!!!!), is it really worth it? Heart is telling me yes, head is telling me no! I do have a BT kit sitting here that has to be added in too. Do I "have" to do SDS at the same time, will I really use it? Pretty sure I have a H revision 2012 RNS-E

2. I had the time to check the coding on the RNS-E that I put in yesterday and it is way off. I have done a best guess for what the coding should be but can anyone help confirm please. I am going with this so far:

03?91??

1st ? - Treble Speaker Diagnosis/Optical Parking Aid – No idea what the first one is and I have standard front/rear sensors for parking, nothing else.

Sound Characteristic – She has Bose so going with 9 there?

2nd ? – No AMI, no Sirius as not a Yank, no analogue input, so should that be 1?

3rd ? – It has the TV Tuner (not that it is of any use) and it has a cd changer, so should that be 4?

Thanks guys.

I reckon it's dead easy, read the coding/adaptation guide on the Ross-Tech wiki http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29 then write down the values in your current RNS-E and just make them the same in the new one.

See http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... 28RNS-E%29 you need 0309114

You also need to set adaptation channel 8 to 255 to turn off GALA (not needed with Bose AudioPilot which is what we have).

Lol, that would be fupping logical and really obvious, should have thought about that thanks, will stick the old lump in tomorrow and see. What I will say is that even before the swap, Vagisil was reporting back that the defunct TV tuner wasn't coded anyway
