Re: Another dissapointing tear up
I can get just as much pleasure from my RS4 by rumbling around town at low revs in a high gear as I do by 5000-8000 rpm.
30mph in 6th on the flat in S mode and it sounds great with WOT!
There aren't many cars that can please aurally throughout the rev range like an RS4.
My B5 wasn't really interesting to drive unless it was on boost which these days you can't enjoy all that often
My point is that I can't imagine the 3.0T sounding that good even when wound up and it's all part of the enjoyment of ownership, enjoy those V8s while you can chaps..

My B6 S4 avg. 22mpg MAXIMUMPaulRS4 wrote:Yes forgot about that too.P_G wrote:It's 5mpg in trade off for V8 sound.....
I recon my B8 will be at 29mpg by the time im finished with it
so 7mpg ... not a huge amount I grant you
but its the co2 also are much lower so huge tax savings
necks - the V6 does sound nice, ok, its no V8, and the stock zorst is way too cosseting, but its got a nice quiet rumble and the supercharger whine is really nice ... I'd say, stock for stock, the B8 takes the B6 (S4) in all departments
the RS, of course if a different kettle of fish !

Not enough of a gain to be worth losing the V8 soundtrack for IMHO.aka_dk wrote:I recon my B8 will be at 29mpg by the time im finished with it

Gone: 2006 B7 RS4 Avant (Phantom Black)
Re: Another dissapointing tear up
but in standard form the V8 S4 is silent, so there is no soundtrack IMO
Re: Another dissapointing tear up
how much of a difference do you actually notice after the MRC remap, and how much does it cost (I think it's called Stage 2)? if I do that I am gonna have to switch to Admiral , which will mean an increase of at least £450 per year as my current insurance doesn't allow for any modifications...wrekka wrote:A trip to MRC to get the car mapped. You can ask them to map out the torque limiter in the first 3 gears. Is something i'll be doing in the not too distant future!!moto15 wrote:As intersting as this all is at the end of the day he got beat, in real world driving conditions he got beat, pisses us all off but the facts remain why oh why does Audi only give us full power over 100 mph, so how do i get full power? being a newbie i want to correct this fatal flaw on my car
do you guys think it's worth it? would you do it? I am not considering changing the exhaust, just the remap to get that full 100% torque (I mainly do town driving)

I would say on it's own with no other mods then I doubt there'll be any noticable difference.
The stage 2 is more designed for ported/polished manifold and miltek exhaust.

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
I though stage 1 was generic (like APS) and stage 2 was the "speciality" of MRC

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
Stage 2 is a custom map with an hour or so on the rollers in my case,in isolation a remap on a standard car will unlock the limiters in the first 3 gears and give you the kick you get in 3rd gear upwards, the difference will not be huge but certainly noticeable in the most used areas of general driving, how often do you go over 100mph in anger and use its full performance compared to needing full power in say 2nd gear?

Blimey dk, what were you doing with your S4?aka_dk wrote:My B6 S4 avg. 22mpg MAXIMUM

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
No way!
More to the point then, what were you doing with it!
Iirc 22 was the official combined avg ?

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
I know it was 23.1 because that is what I get from the RS with it's FSi, I just have more of a tendency to plant the accelerator in this one!
S4 used to do plenty trips to AMD Oxford et al for r/r days so long motorway runs and oddles of torque when remapped (365+ ft/lbs)

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
As an ex RS4 owner I honestly dont get why people are really that bothered about the figures and bragging rights! The purchase process for me was very simple, get in the car, drive it....mmm that feels nice.....sign up and wait for a delivery date.
Drive it, enjoy it and WGAF if you get burnt off by some chav in a TDI.

Re: Another dissapointing tear up
I don't think many people on here want to get burnt off by a Tdi...
Different people buy the RS4 for different reasons, and not all of them are to do with speed, but if a 2.0t A5 is keeping up with an RS4 then I can understand the op asking questions.
