Google is right - there's a beeper under the parcel shelf that normally sounds when you're reversing and get close to an object. That beeper (or the wiring to it) is faulty.

Carried any large loads recently in the boot that may have disturbed the wiring?

no, boot is always empty, ill take a look for the beeper tomorrow, it has only just started doing it constant, before if i put it in reverse then out and back in it would clear.

ordered a new speaker yesterday, fitted tonight and all working as it should again thank god, very annoying.

you dont realise how much you use the sensors

the speaker was £14, i think the cheapest part i have bought for the car

Been a while I realise but could you let me know where abouts the speaker is and how to get to it - I think may failed the other day as it crackled for a bit and now I get the same long beep and flashes as you describe.

Thanks
