Enabling TPMS Again

Post by psglas » Tue Sep 15, 2015 8:08 pm

I disabled my TPMS using VCDS a couple of years ago as I had no sensors on my winter tyres. It looks like the sensors are relatively inexpensive on ebay these days so I'm considering re-enabling it again as I'm not good at checking my pressures regularly. Before I purchase the sensors I just want to double check the control module is ok.

I'm currently seeing the following on a scan. Can anyone tell me if the module is ok ? Or can I run other tests ? Note: I still have TPMS disabled on Address 17/Channel 61.

Address 65: Tire Pressure Labels: 8E0-907-273.lbl

As there is no aerial fault code you are probably ok.
I had the same fault codes before and after I changed out my controller module so likely all your sensors are flat.

Just add 512 to your current value I think once the sensors are fitted and you should be good to go.

Thanks. Will give that a shot.

Whereabouts in the car is the controller module btw?

The TPMS module is located on the passenger side behind the rear seat back above the wheel well. I had to take the whole of the interior panels off that side of the boot (on a Avant) to access it.

Not that hard to do but I would try the sensors first as much easier (for somebody else!) to change.

Just curious. I've purchased some sensors from ebay. All being well that'll sort it.

Which sensors did you get. Are they working OK?

Based on the info in this thread

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=115888&p=744647&hilit=tpms#p744647

I bought these sensors

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x-OEM-new-Au ... 1800929102?

I think they are the correct sensors but I can't get the car to sync with them. I switched on TPMS with VCDS but I just get a Low Pressure Red Warning on the DIS. I've tried letting air out and pumping up again with the ignition on. Then did a 30 min drive but still nothing. I drove around for a week with the warning but still can't get them synced. I did try the local Indy and tyre company but they don't have the wake up tool. The local stealer will charge to wake them up and they have been off for a couple of years so I can't be sure it's not the antenna or TMPS control unit.

Would appreciate any help if anyone has any ideas on how to sync them. I might try one more time to deflate/inflate.

Did you do a reset on the DIS? I think there is an option for new wheels.

I can't access the DIS menu with the red low pressure warning showing. None of the steering wheel buttons are working unfortunately. I expect its fine with the amber warning but not the red one.

I'm pretty sure they should still work with the red warning.

Have you tried with the ignition on but without the engine running?

Progress, left it 30 secs with the ignition on but without starting the engine and got into the wheel change menu. I've done a wheel change and reset the faults on VCDS channel 65. I can now see the IDs on the sensors zeroed out when I read the measurement blocks. Looks like it's ready to search of the sensors now. Hopefully if I take it for a drive they'll wake up and register. Cars stuck behind others in the drive so will need to wait until tomorrow for that.

Many thanks for the suggestion :-)

Quick update. After I managed to do a wheel change on the DIS the sensors are now syncing up. All the sensor IDs and tyre pressure values are visible on the VCDS so I can confirm the sensors in the ebay link above definitely work.

I discovered that's how to get into the wheel change menu when you have a red TPMS warning a few years ago after I had new tyres fitted and the garage didn't have a clue how to clear the warning.
