Newbie

Post by Acorn » Wed Jul 30, 2014 10:44 pm

Hi everyone,

After a few weeks looking through these pages for information I have tonight picked up my new car a rs4 saloon in sprint blue finding the power a bit of a change from my previous range rover!! Car is totally standard with 38k on the clock and managed to get a bargain I think as knocked seller down to £15,5000 will post photos tomorrow but if any of you have any thoughts on possible upgrade items that you have fitted to standard cars would love to know as have a bit of money left to spend from my budget

Cheers

Hi Mate, welcome to the forum :)

£15.5k seems extremely cheap for 38k - any reason for that?

if it is bog standard, you will want to prob add some spacers to give the car a wider stance, I added K/W lowering springs too which keep the DRC but means you can adjust the ride height and get the stance looking just right, the car is too high as standard IMHO. Then you will prob want to upgrade the exhaust to really show off the V8 soundtrack.

if you have any questions just ask or use the search function above as pretty much everything has been covered once or 10 times ;-)

Surely a CAT D for that price? if not well done, that's a steal.

+1. When I was looking for mine November 13, any sub 40k were 21/22k+ non-CAT D...

If it's not CAT d then a steal...

Wow. Then that's a real right place, right time. Well done.

4/5k under book depending on condition.

Not quite as clear cut as that Neil. From my understanding, to bring it to the UK you'll need to pay import duty and VAT on the car value - this would be decided by Customs and Excise. £15.5k would quickly become nearer 20k once landed.

Ah yes. VAT. :ban:

That's calculated by Notification of Vehicle Arrivals (NOVA). You have to pay VAT on the vehicle, any accessories purchased with the vehicle and any delivery or incidental charges. The NOVA online service will calculate any VAT due. If you're moving to the UK from the European Union, there is no import tax and/or duty to pay on your personal belongings. - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving/moving.htm

So, 20% VAT of say 15K is still 18K in the UK - still pretty reasonable...

I believe NOVA calculates the value of the car today - not the OM purchase price. Depending how they see a 7 year old 4 door car it may be good or bad!

I have a HMRC account for VAT etc. and the Nova submission is there - no real idea how much it would be VAT wise until it's submitted...
:beer chug:

Yes, rule 1 - pics!

They would've looked better if you parked them side by side.

(boring sensible post alert) Consider a slush fund before any upgrades/mods. It's an amazing car, you'll love it, but your heart will be broke if an expensive fix pops out of nowhere. A couple of thousand should ease any future pain.
