Aaarrrg DRC... Help

Post by Montymole » Tue Aug 28, 2012 8:37 pm

So today I had both my shocks replaced on the front at Audi Stafford...due to oil misting on both and knocking from the rear and front of the car.

Drove it back on the m6 and seemed 50% better than it was but still a little unstable under slow bumppy roads.

Jumped out the car to investgate and the car seems a little high at the wheel arches all round but more so at the front???

Does this mean they have put the wrong pressure in ? If so does anyone knw the correct pressure so I can question them first thing in the morning?

Also should they have replaced the DRC Valve and could this this cause instability ??? :bash:

Thanks in advance :bash:

Sounds like they have been over pressurized, had the same issues couple of years back front shocks burst :audibash:

It's worth mentioning that all RS4s are higher at the front compared to the rear. A little less noticeable with SS suspension but they're all like that.

I only purchased the car from a private garage 2weeks ago this Friday and they were happy to pick up any charges.

Cost on first call to Audi Stafford would have been £500 inc fitting and re gas'ing for just the front left

After a few calls to Audi head office customer service I was promised some good will gesture from Stafford Audi

When the car went in today they said both shocks needed to be replaced but they would do both with 40% discount...

The fact that I owned a new Audi s3 that had been serviced at Stafford help me with the discount, the did ask if I was going to get the rs4 serviced at Stafford

So all in with discount the bill was £505.20

Of which I get a two year warranty

Lucky for me the garage I purchased the car have offers to pay the bill

I would speak with Audi customer service first... Seemed to help...

Hope this helps :audibash:

Perhaps it could just be that I'm not used to the higher ride as I would have lost all the gas since I purchased the car and had the fault??

Mine looks stupid low due to the leak, pretty close to half the rubber on the tyre is hidden!! Love the look but not the underlying issue! :(

I must also mention that it's a convertable... So expect a bit of scutter...but it still just doesn't seem planted

Anyone know what the DRC valve does... Surely they would have checked this?

Aaarrrg DRC... Help

Post by Madmonkee » Tue Aug 28, 2012 9:33 pm

Copy paste
When a corner is taken, a flow of oil, and thus a supplementary damping force, is generated via the central valve between the diagonally opposed shock absorbers. When the suspension is compressed on one side, the damper characteristic is modified in such a way that rolling or pitching movements are almost entirely eliminated. As a result, this mechanically active damping system ensures that the RS6 Quattro maintains extremely good tracking stability when cornering and responds precisely to adjustments of the steering wheel.

Taken from rs6 but essentially the same valve??
