TPMS, what would you do?
TPMS, what would you do?
Ok my RS4's wheels are soon to be going for a refurb. I had a look at the valves on the wheels and the threads on all of them are corroded badly. When I managed to take a dust cap off it was filled with grey powder and only pushed back on rather than screwed. I am going to call Audi later and ask how much these are. Does anybody know how much they are or if i can get them else where cheaper? Also I could just put stanard valves back in and disable the TPMS via Vagcom but would any of you guys chose this option? I have had no issues with TPMS system since getting the car apart from them looking nasty!
What would you guys do... Cheers

Re: TPMS, what would you do?
Driving at 'high' speed down the M40 on Sunday in a car without TPMS where I had checked the pressures 10 day earlier after I had just bought it but not that day, an element of doubt did cross my mind, never had that with the RS4 as I know TPMS would tell me.
A lady asked me to look at her new Beetle because it was making a funny noise when cornering, she had 18" Lambo replica rims on it so the tyres were low profile, nearside rear tyre had NO pressure in it, NONE AT ALL and yet it looked 50% inflated to my eye.
I think TPMS is great when it works which for most people it does, I'd say a lot of the hassle people have is from tyre fitters breaking valves and aerials getting corroded, all of which are easy and cheap to fix.
Go to GSF and get the valves and sensors for half Audi, same make (Beru).

Re: TPMS, what would you do?
Valves including silver dust caps can be had for £12 each from Audi.
I personally would keep TPMS even though as you say the valves Audi use for it are incredibly soft. It's a handy tool to have despite its inaccuracies.
