Cheers. I'll take a look in the morning.

OK, so you need a Torx driver to get into the ECU box, correct? You pull out the flap that the battery cover is in (across the width of the engine bay) and then there is a black box on the left (looking at it from the front of the car) and the ECUs are in there?

Almost correct,
The ECUs are both under that very cover but one is below where the bat cover/jump terminals are and the other is directly below the drivers side window wiper. The one below the bat cover is the easiest to get too.

I had the 0080 SW service campaign upgrade done yesterday while my AVS service was being done (£321), I used to have SW 0050.

First impressions are that colds start is still as spectacular (loud barking from the exhausts while on the initial few seconds warm up, then the revs drop and the exhaust valves open) and the engine runs smoother at all revs .... BUT it just doesn't feel as sharp responding to the throttle (even in Sport mode) and the response feels "soft". The acceleration is still there but I think the character of the car has been lost a bit, I liked it better the way it was.

Anyone else noticed the difference between 0050 and 0080?

PetrolDave,
Some of the guys on RS6.com were experiencing the same as you, some claimed the car was slower but like you say if it is smoother it will give that impression.

I was one of the guy's on RS6.com who had a good moan about the software upgrade. I don't think, if I remember right that I said the car was slower, but IMO the delivery is less frantic or smoother as Petrol/Dave put it,and what really got my blood boiling was not being given an option to say no I don't want the upgrade, especially as it does alter the way the car drives/delivers it performance, as I was more than happy with it as it was. :x

Second that!

Audi - can we have an 0090 upgrade that gives us back the "character" please?

I thought the ecu's were on the passenger side when you slide away the supposed battery terminal cover even though the battery is in the boot.
??
I certainly would like the option of the upgrade. My car is a July 2007, near end of production. Would anyone know the ecu sw 0050 or sw0080 ??
Cheers

I would think yours would be 0080.

BTW, I have had the 0080 upgrade and what helps it presently is running 95RON. Must be the cold air temperatures as I had run the RS on 95 previously (10+ degress C) and it hated it, but now it's great and agressive engine character.

May just be me though! Have had to run on 95 as there isn't a Shell station within 20 miles of me with V-Power!

Haven't had the cold start problems, maybe due to the fact the ambient air temp can be upto 31 C at 7.00am and very very humid. NOt great environment for bhp.
Cheers

Audi upgraded mine recently with the latest ECU update when I had emission control warning light, I didn't have a choice either as they said that was the only way to clear the warning light. But I must say i kinda like the "smoother" response and I feel that the power is definitely not diminished but may be that's just me.
I only use 98 RON fuel on my RS4 so I don't know if that makes any difference.

I'd agree that there was no loss of power, but I hated the smoother response - I didn't swap an S4 for an RS4 only to get an S4 back again! It appears that either a full reset of basic settings or a hard drive returns the full "rabid dog" performance.

Is the reset a battery disconnect and wait job, or can it be done through VAG-COM?

Very interested to know the answer to this myself.
