Inner CV Boot

Post by MICALEE » Thu Jan 07, 2010 6:32 pm

Car went into dealer today and I was informed that an Inner CV Boot was required.

Now I am getting noise from the car which I had researched and was advised it was probably my noisy Falkan Tyres. Could this CV actually be the cause?

I thought the noise was wheel bearings, but it is a grinding type of noise now come to think of it!

If the CV boot has gone then this could well be the cause of the noise, however (as far as I understand) the inner CV joint is the one nearer the gearbox, rather than nearer the wheel, so the noise might not sound like it's coming from the wheels...

I'd be surprised if you could hear any problem with a CV boot. Generally it would only be a visual thing during an MOT inspection. It should not make much of a difference with the noise unless you are super sensitive.

Inner boots are a bit more of pain to replace than outer boots, depending on the design of the drive shafts. well worth getting sorted, as you don't want a CV joint going and causing vibrations into the diff/gearbox.

Sorry, yeah, the boot itself going wont cause any noise, it's when the grease leaks out and crud gets into your CV joint that you'll start hearing the noise.

Yes, it must be the grit and stuff that I can hear - I sort of hope so, cause that will answer my question on whether it was my tyres, or wheel bearings I could hear.

Its booked in for next week
