400bhp + ??

Post by linkman72 » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:05 am

Well I have spoken to a few engine builders and no one seems willing to do a stroker kit, there was mention of shallow pistons as standard etc etc but unless I will take a risk of my engine getting lunched with no guarantee I have hit a bit of a wall

So my plans are as follows

Milltek non res
tubular manifolds and de cat / sports cats
Intake manifold ( are JHM the only option or can anyone suggest a british company that will work mine ?? )
and a remap

I am presuming that should do it ?

I do want to use forced induction at some stage but they dont half make some noise !!, I have been eyeying up superchargers on fleecebay but I think it would need to be a kit on account of Audi giving their engineers mind warping substances before they started giggling and put the engine in backwards !?!?.

I am getting the milltek fitted next month then the sports cats / de cat in december ( pay day upgrading dont ya know )

The exhaust manifold will get done in the new year but like I said above I am not sure about ordering an intake from the U.S 'cos everytime I order something from 'dumbf#ckistan' I get violated on imports duties etc etc ( cheers Cameron you rabi )

I have called a couple of people regarding working the inlet but no one seems to have done one yet ( surely this can't be the case one of you guys must have had it done by now ? )

I did however get an offer of a completely re-cast intake at £2k

If you know your way around a dremel you could do the intake yourself. Someone in the RS4 B7 section attempted and successfully modified their manifold inlet trumpets

Another option is nitro. Systems have been installed successfully on our V8.

I do like the sound of NOS but the missus would take some more persuading !. However as I understand it most Insurers won't cover NOS on a policy ( I am insured direct with Audi who seem very strict on mods ).

I have a friend who runs it but his policy states it must be disconnected for the road ( which he doesnt obviously ) but as I explained to him, if he crashes and gets f##ked up and cant removed the pipework before the car is inspected he is knackered well and truly !.

Once my policy has ended with Audi I may try n gets some quotes with a progressive system fitted but I would have to get the motor inspected first 'cos I have seen melted metal before and it aint nice

What are the recommended jets for NOS 75-100 bhp ?

You may struggle to get to 400bhp or higher without going Forced Induction or spending serious money.

I had my B6 S4 modded as far as sensible money could take it: Milly Sports Cats and Cat Back, K&N Air Filter, Stage 2 remap.

On the Dyno this put out 385bhp.

Manifold may get you the extra 15bhp to reach 400bhp - but still think you will be a bit shy (i would guess 395bhp)
Current: MK7 Golf R, Lapiz Blue 5 dr
Gone and missed: 2006 Sprint Blue B7 RS4 Avant. Non res valved Milly.
Gone: B6 S4. Noggy BLue. AMD Stage 3 (Milteck Res, Sports Cats, AMD Chip, Piper Cross Air Filter) ECS Drilled/Slotted Rotors, EBC Red Stuff Pads.

This is more than most standard coked up RS4s are putting out.
After exhaust, Revolution carbon air intake with Pipercross cone filter, gutted pre-cats and cold air feed mine was putting out 390ps. Only after a remap did it make 403ps. I'm guessing before the mods it must have been in the 370's.

Thanks mike that sounds about right, I intend to add the manifold and reworked intake to that lot so should be well in excess of 400bhp. I wont get there until the summer but one bit at a time

Indeed - which is why the B6 S4 is so under rated, although my RS4 on the dyno was putting out 431 bhp.

On an aside note they guy I sold my S4 to is probs going to sell it as he needs to save up for a house move.
