air con leaking

Post by s4marsh » Tue Jul 07, 2009 1:07 am

my air con has been leaking for a while but it only leaks while using it on cold untill the pressure drops low enough for the compressor not to kick in it still had just under the lowest operating pressure the other day when checked indicating its not leaking all the time,,,very strange. i've added some dye and oil but any suggestions what the problem could be?

I think the threaded bits on the compressor which the hoses attach to can break away. I've had no aircon since one of my many engine pulls. :-(

Thats worth a look at thanks, and maybe using ptfe tape on all the connections. i had a pipe replaced a few months back down behind the headlight area they said, but it never solved the problem its had around £320 spent including 2 regases+dye and its still leaking. its going back in as soon as it stops running cold but if they think i'm giving them any more cash they're gonna be dissapointed surely they should have pressure tested it although it does keep pressure while its not running.i dont want to fill it with that leak stop stuff as i'd much rather have a proper fix

yeah it comes in a can and you just add it to the system like the gas try auto-cool or there's plenty of other in the uk it'll cost you 40quid to recharge and leak stop it. try here http://www.car-air-conditioning-supplie ... php?cat=30 even halfrauds might sell it for about 10 zillion pounds

Just seen it only repairs leaks in the rubber/plastic components. Think mine is a crack in the thread on the compressor. :(
