RS4 B5 Wheels onto S4 w/ std calipers?

Post by kylewc » Wed Mar 11, 2009 7:28 pm

Just put a post about RS6 Reps but have come across a set of genuine RS4's B5 that i would happily have.

They are supposidly genuine with part numbers 4D0 601 025 AH
in an 18x8 ET43, does anyone know if these will go straight over the standard B5 S4 calipers?

Sure it must have been done may times before but i wanted to be sure before buying them as i dont want to fit spacers.

Thanks

Kyle

thanks, have done loads of digging about and it seems that those for sale are not genuine RS4's.

those that have put reps on have gone for an ET35 (18x8) but even still may need a small spacer to clear the calipers (especially with new discs and pads as the outer part of the caliper sits out further).

have decided that the reps are the way to go and will order the ET35's and hope its close - but will fit a 3mm spacer if needed, not ideal but not too bad either...

anyone care to comment?

you will need a 5mm spacer if your pads are decent, if your pads are like new you will need to grind a wee bit off your caliper with the 5mm spacer.
its a pain in the dot

thanks for that curtis. the wheels should arrive today. i have a 3mm and 6mm spacer to play with at home so hoping that they should go on without much grief...

The RS4 reps at ET35 will not require any spacers. They will go over standard calipers just fine. I have 993TT conversion without spacers. They will fill the arches out just nicely as well.

i think you will find that they will, as you have not got standard calipers how would you know?

Mentioning my brake upgrade is a bad example. The wheels came before the brake upgrade. They were fitted by the previous owner and the car had brand new discs and pads when I bought it. There are no wheels spacers and when I sold the calipers there was no evidence that they had been molested.

Yep B5 reps. I know there are varying standards of wheel as with most things. The reps on mine are the relatively more expensive ones from Italy I think. There are some cheapo ones from China. Maybe it's the spokes themselves that cause the issue on some!

UPDATE:

for completeness of this post i thought i'd let people know what i found...

i bought a set of reps from Elite Direct - 18x8 ET35, 225/40/18 tyres Toyo Proxes.

the rears were fine.

fronts needed 6mm spacers to go over the calipers (std S4 calipers) with fairly new pads (1 month) and older discs (8 months)
i plan on shaving some of the calipers away to allow me to put a 3mm spacer on the front as the wheels are sticking out of the arch. this isnt a problem at the moment but may be when i get the car lowered.

Dazzer:
is yours lowered? and what did you go for?
i was planning on just doing a set of springs, i saw some that were 25mm front and 15mm rear. that should make it sit as it should as opposed to the 'arse low' look...

Really intrigued now. Must be the wheels. Wonder if there are different calipers!

Mine is on H&R Coilovers.

Yep think you may be right. Still takes a little closer inspection to see the difference. I was considering getting another set of reps so glad I am now aware of this as I could have been a tad miffed as I don't want spacers on my car.
