URGENT front suspension, how do you get it off???????

Post by fil » Tue Jun 17, 2008 6:53 pm

need to change to arms, but im stuck and pissed off now, every dam bolt fouls something!

need to get the arm off as the 100mm bolt is siezed in proper good, so need the lot in a vice to smash it out.

but the main bits is the rear lower arm, bolt fouls the underside of the car?

where do i need to go next to get it all off.

+ is the abs sensor cable pluged behind the dash somewhere, as that runs through the dam arm.

pictures to make sence of what the hell im on about

Get some heat on it to take the long pinch bolt out. Drop subframe a little to get lower bolts out. undo strut.

Or do what I did and watch someone struggle while drinking tea with a pack of milk chocolate malted milks.

yes mate, as said drop the sub a little, that big bolt, just undo it a bit and get a lever on the wishbone. that lower wishbone, the banana shaped one is a little silly, the way you have to drop the rear on the frame is crap!. You will see what I am saying by putting a leaver in the top.

I do hope you are using plus-gas on the bolts, and not silly wd40, they are like chalk and cheese.

Be careful with the seized bolt at the top of the upright, I broke a chunk off an upright once when I was trying to hammer a bolt out. I've changed my technique since then...

If it's completely seized then you could always lower the top housing to undo the two wishbone bolts and take off the upright complete with wishbones..

got the lot off, lowered the subframe as said,

the bolts shoot as when i tapped it (with a nut on to protect the thread ) it bent a little.

just sorting my dinner, then poping into my work place, to get the whole lot in a vice and tap it out, hopefully!

Nice one Fil. You showed some perseverance there dude and it seems to have almost paid off :thumb: Just hope you get the ABS warning sorted.

The ABS sensor is probably too far away now. Push it in as close as possible (but not touching), and it should work.

No need for VAGCOM to clear the fault if it is fixed as it will run a diganostic every time you start the car and will clear if fault is gone.
