S4 - Oil Worries

Post by stark » Thu May 01, 2008 9:47 am

Red oil management light came on in DIS yesterday morn with 3 beeps, checked oil level - was hovvering around min.. this was topped up later in the day with the same long life oil used by Audi. However the same thing happened when i started the car this morning - oil light with 3 beeps... checked level again, was half way between min and max. Is this sufficient or should i top it up to the max mark and hope the display does not beep at me again...?

Even yesterday however, i only had the light come on once in the morning, even though i had to stop and restart a couple of times during the day. Could it be a sensor issue?

Any advice would be great....

Could be sensor. Is the low oil level light or the pressure light? (can't remember if they are different...)

Not sure, ive read somewhere that there are two lights for oil, an amber and a red, amber usually signifies low oil, red is oil pressure.. could someone confirm this? so it was the red light that came up, but the oil was low...

Yes I think you are right - and also a low priority warning only has one beep. You must have low oil pressure (real or sensor fault).

Now you have filled the oil to the correct level are you still having a fault display?

Thanks for the replies guys, topped up the oil a little more, no issues on that front any longer... however, noticed that my coolant level was extremely low, way below min level - kinda strange it hadnt warned me abt it... topped this up, monitoring it now, car has been driving slightly sluggish - not feeling as poweful as it should. Think a trip down to MRC would probably be good... I aint too clued up on these cars yet, but thinking maybe some fault codes might have developed? Note, coolant level has not dropped since thursday when i topped it up, must be a very small leak someplace... Any ideas?
