Olly,
In case you're not aware, the only reason to change DVs is because of reliability. They do NOT improve performance, and can often result in reduced throttle response.
I can't remember how technical you are so if you know this already please excuse me.
There are 2 bad things that can happen to the air intake system on your car. The first is an air leak which causes the turbos to overwork. The second is solid matter getting into the engine. DV failure can cause both of these, and according to reports (i.e. not necessarily substantiated) both OEM and aftermarket DVs can cause these problems.
IMO (and it is no more than that), solid piston DVs give the lower risk of failure. However unless there is careful selection of spring tension, they can be slower to close resulting in loss of response between gearchanges. Also if the spring is too strong, they can be slow to open and cause boost spikes. Most can also be serviced.
The alternative is to use the newer diaphragm DV (as Nige has suggested). These are better for a stock engine than the ones it may have been supplied with. However like the TBB, they are still prone to failure because of the flexible diaphragm.
My recommendation is that if you are not going to chip the car for a while (e.g. at least 6 months), then do exactly what Nige has suggested. Although you may have long arms and can accept the stock gear lever throw (I could not and indeed it was my 1st priority mod).

thanks for advice guys.........the reason i was thinking about chaning the DV's was to hopefully get a bit more noise out of them !
I think i'll probably do the shortshift 1st.....anyone know how much this is all in (supplied and fitted ?)
Then i think the remap.
I dont think i will be changing the exhaust.........at this point in time anyways !

DV's = Dump Valve, but they're actually recirculating valves on the S4 - know as BPV's = ByPass Valves - confusing or what !

DVs (i thought they were Diverter Valves) dont really make any noise you can hear cos they dont vent to atmosphere like Dump Valves do.Olly_K wrote:the reason i was thinking about chaning the DV's was to hopefully get a bit more noise out of them

Olly_K, thats the order i did it in, shortshifter ...remap .(.. bipipe ... dvs ...suspension.)
Once you drive the car after the remap you will not stop smiling, i still find myself laughing out loud when i plant the accelerator, what a feeling!
changing the suspension was the next major improvement, it transformed my car from a boat to a go kart.
Start saving.

Actually I can't remember.sash wrote:dippy, what spring are you using in your DV?

I think Forge do 4 springs in yellow, green, blue and red. I think Red is the strongest. I know that I have the second strongest but I can't remember which colour it was. Possibly blue or green but I can't remember for certain.
