why is that then? Does it cause some sort of harm to the 4WD system? I only ask because ive taken my car to different MOT stations over the years and some say they cant test on the rollers and others have done :?
surely if the car is in neutral it cant cause any harm?

i'm not sure, the handbook says something about avoiding suspended tows because it can damage the transmission so i figure the same applies to a two wheel brake tester.

i'm so proud, this is the first thread i've started that has gone onto 2 pages that didn't involve gimp suits and references to the Earl of Wakefield naked

Mine failed for 'centre exhaust mount missing' which was stupid because that mount is completely redundant with a stock exhaust. Ten minute welding job sorted it out though.

there doesn't appear to be much that fails on S4's

surely there must be other items that are prone to wear or are we such fastidious owners that we replace things as a matter of course

Turbos aren't MOT failures. Unless the oil seals blow!

;-)

The usual culprits interfere with our enjoyment so they get dealt with. TBBs, DVs, MAFs (for us lucky Bosch owners)., O2s otherwise mine seems very reliable. DIS you simply turn off.

The only major issue I have had was a starter motor go at 88K.

Flexible brake hoses have a tendancy to start deteriorating at this kinda age (for early models).

That's interesting because mine failed for this reason plus the fact that the bracket had broken at the box allowing exhaust gasses to leak. The fix was to weld a patch on the centre box and leave the bracket off because it isn't really needed. This passed the retest.

Just back from the Mot test in my 55k mile, standard 2000 facelift....straight through no reccomendations and the tester even called another of his colleagues over to look underneath as they couldn't believe how clean it was!
Quite happy with that to be fair :)
2000 B5 S4 facelift, sadly missed...enjoying the 2005 A2 TDi Special Edition though!

Near side fornt CV boot failed my last MOT, had an advisory on corrosion on rear brake discs (have since replaced both rears due to seized rear calliper carrier) but not much else. Pre-facelift '99 110k miles.
