Thanks Pete,

Bought my car with 18" reps on so assume I have spacers. I have has a knocking from the front right after 60mph. Sounds like I should check to see what spacer types I have as a Uni spacer could be the cause yes?

Yes, the universal spacer is literally littered with slots and holes so that they cater for differing stud patterns and PCD diameters.

As Pete says, the hubcentric spacer fits neatly onto the hub, whereas the universal jobbie flaps all over the place.

Dazzer,
I never thought of that when you mentioned the knocking.
You should certainly have spacers to accommodate those RS4 18" reps - whip a wheel off and check.
I have some pics of universal and hubcentric if you want to compare, but it should be apparent from the above as soon as you get the wheel off.

I would definitely have a check. Unfortunately most places that sell alloys are clueless and will sell universal spacers as they only cost a couple of quid and are hassle-free to sell. But they're not clever, particularly on a performance car.

Even easier, give me your 18s and a grand and fit my Lambo rims that don't need spacers ;)

You think if I had a Lambo I'd be talking to scummy S4 drivers ;)

In a word, keep clear of spacers ,my wheel supplier offered them FOC, i declined,I fitted them spacers to my 944Turbo S but they were specifcaly designed to fit the car (fleisenger motorsport items)
They will probably put even more load and wear on the wheel bearings.

Anybody running Stoptechs on Std 17" wheels will tell you that they have no problems with a 2mm or less clearance between the spokes and the caliper.
However these are a FIXED caliper as opposed to the std. sliding caliper which can move.
I run RS4 rears on my S4 with 17" Std. wheels, they are a sliding caliper and run OK with 2mm clearance betwen the outer surface and rim.

kwottro...Please remember with std. sliding calipers that when you fit new brake pads then the caliper will stick out more towards the spokes of the rim!!
You would not be the first to fit new brake pads and then lock-up the wheels when refitting them!!
