brakes and power on budget

Hi, i have a '99 facelift avant. Would be grateful for advice on how i can get more early mid range power, and uprate the brakes (pads/disc wise) on a tight budget. Any thoughts, suggestions or experience appreciated. Cheers

I guess that depends on what 'a tight budget' means. EBC grooved discs and Yellow stuff pads for the front, about £400 and then a visit to MRC for a remap another £400/500. That's my plan, but currently my budget is a little too tight for that. I'm sure the experts will advise. :D

Definately MRC or similar reputable tuners for a remap, that will sort your power. Then the cheapest brake upgrade would most probably be B5 RS4 brakes up front. If you search classified ads they come up for sale. Have a look over on audisrs aswell, some good info over there too.
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!

Agreed, but then you need to swap the wheels to 18's as the S4 17's won't clear the RS4 callipers. I really wanted to do that but couldn't justify the extra money for new wheels (yet :-) ).

Good point i forgot the standard were 17"....I've had 18's for that long it's become the norm :wink: If you were to buy some new wheels with tyres though, then sell the standard ones and recoup at the very least a third of the money you spent.....You'd have new wheels, new tyres and more room for bigger brakes :lol:

:lol: I forgot that minor point :oops: I see where your coming from now, my mrs is the same. Sometimes you have to do things undercover :sekret: lol.....Keeps everyone happy.... Good luck with what ever you decide to do, keep us informed mate :thumbs:

Thanks Gents for the steers - definitely need to work on the man maths without the MRs knowing. Active safety angle seemed my way in...! So I think the new discs/pads way in up front with the remap confirms my thinking on it too. EBC are the best bet? cheers

Brakes- use the B6/B7 setup on the front and B6 rear discs with your calipers and apdaptor brackets.

Cheap Power? Doesn't exist!

MRC for your remap, but beware as it doesn't just end up with a Remap!


Unless it is perfect, you will have to have parts replaced BEFORE Doug will map it!
