Tyre questions/problem
Went to take the car out today and got a puncture. Took the wheels off and all along the inside edge there is excessive wear with the wire poking through. Checked the other side and its exactly the same. What can cause this the allignement or just the tracking? What tyre shall i go for bearing in mind funds are a little tight now, somehthing to do with this time of year.

when i bought that car i put the coilover suspension on.. i also fitted tire's and had a biessbarth (audi 4wheel alignment) done..
when i fitted the MTM rep alloys i had it checked again..them tire's must have done 10,000 mile by now..thats not bad from a set of budget tires..

i had the toe-in adjusted slightly so not to wear out the edges..proberbly worth checking again as you would have had the car a year in feb...so the tire's have been on since the end of aug 05..Can it be to do with the car being lowered on coilovers?

Had the tracking done at APS on their Beissbarth but the 19" tyres had done about 4k by then. Then I took it to the ring and back (only did a few laps and mainly wet but still a long journey). The pic was after about 5.5k miles and they were Kuhmos. The front passenger tyre was leaking air like a slow puncture but the outside of the tread that I could see was still way within the legal limit. I took the tyre off to have a look and cut my fingers on the wire inside!!
I've since put 18s on with pirelli pzero tyres and done about 4k miles + track day at Castle Combe and the inside is pretty low, I had an advisory on the MOT last month. It's been pulling a fair bit to the left for a while (something the tracking at APS didn't seem to cure?) and the bearing is squealing on that side (front) so will get that replaced while it's at Doug's. I'll then take it in to Audi for another Beissbarth session...

See below link no2 for toe in/out description. I discussed with Doug a while back and apparently it is a common problem on these cars.

blue..the guys that did my wheel alignment aint just audi tech,s..there master techs and very good friends of mine..they know what im like when it comes to my car and wont just set it up to audi spec..they check measure re-check and make sure its correct for the type of suspension..
like i said..them tire,s must have done atleast 10,000 miles which aint bad cosidering that car aint driven by miss daisy..and NO the subframe was not removed by me or the previous owner..
steve..if your tires have lasted since aug 05 i think you've had a good run with them..just replace them leave the alignment alone and enjoy..it takes about 500 miles for a set of tires to scrub in so check them..if they look like there wearing then get the alignment done..
if the car is lowered you have to toe it in so to keep the centre of the tire in contact with the rd instead of the outside edge..due to negative camber that is generated when lowering..but im talking about seriously lowered cars..my old car was hardly seriously lowered...

I had A similar thing a while back on both rear tyres, one blew out about 2 mins after i'd pumped it up and checked the pressure and the other at about 20mph in traffic (thankfully nothing serious happened) and they were PS2's IIRC. I'm currently running Yokohama's which were very reasonably priced and I'll problably stay with them when I get round to fitting a set of 18's in the near future along with various other goodies that I have waiting to be fitted
