1999 S4 ARB

Post by Prawn » Tue Jun 03, 2003 8:56 am

Has anyone uprated the ARB in an early 1999 S4, I have tried to get one via AMD but the one sent to them was for a later MY and did not fit.
Does the RS4 ARB fit the S4 ?

Prawn, were you uprating the front or rear ARB (or both)? I understand that a stiffer front will reduce understeer and a stiffer rear will promote oversteer. They only replace the rear one on the RS4 GmbH kit. Anyone got one sitting in the garage (or even a std RS4 ARB)?

Increasing the stiffness of the ARB at one end will increase the grip at the other so...

Stiffer front ARB = more rear end grip
Stiffer Rear ARB = more front end grip

And less roll of course

Currently just looking at the front but would probably do both if I could

Jeff, I stand corrected, you are quite right ...
Stiffer front ARB = more rear end grip
Stiffer Rear ARB = more front end grip

Shaun, do you not suffer from understeer in fast corners ? Surely replacing the front ARB will make the understeer worse ? I was thinking of replacing the front only, but having read Jeffs post and done a bit of research on the web, it would sound like the rear ARB would be the obvious choice to reduce understeer ?

Thoughts ?

I also feel that the rear ARB is going to help the front end grip better, however I was assured by AMD that the front was the way to go.
TBO i was not convinced but agreed to try the front ARB, as it could be returned if no good.

Are the front and rear ARB from the RS4 thicker/stiffer than the S4 ?, if so these may be a good option.
