What the hell is going on with my car ?

Hi,

my s4 was fine yesterday, and today when I wanted to start it I couldn't move it.
Motor is running ok but I can shift gears but it does not couple and there is a slight noise. Clutch seems to work okay but there is no couple between gearbox and clutch system.


The gearbox is new (only 4k miles) and I don't know why is that happening.

Do you have any idea?

How do u mean? What it goes in to gear but no drive?

sounds like a driveshaft has popped out

Seems strange how it was working fine yesterday ?) Doubt the driveshaft would pop out whilst stationery/engine off ....

Sounds like it could be a prob with the clutch, fluid / master cylinder????

The engine is starting normally, but when I put it into reverse, first,second...fith, there's no reaction when unleashing the clutch.

Let's say I try to get it into reverse or first gear, I press the clutch put the gear on and then unleash the clutch : the car doesn't react, it's static! and you can hear a little noise like "rrrrrrrrrrrrr"

to check the gear linkage or prop..and if its going into gear with engine running i hope it aint a diff or driveshaft broken..mmmmm deja vue

I think it's front-left driveshaft that is broken (when we force driveshaft with a hand it moves easily)

We will see tomorrow.

yup, I had similar symptoms when I had problems with my rear drive shaft. Bolted back in & no problems since.

Does this mean that if one driveshaft goes drive to all 4 wheels is lost?
Does the S4 not have any LSD's?

Also, do you know how this happened as driveshfts just don't fall off/apart when stationary.

No LSDs. Back to the "what happens if one wheel is off the ground?" argument!
