losing all total grip in the wet b5 s4

Post by doug9787 » Sat Aug 24, 2013 9:25 pm

Hi all i have some some seriously scary simple corner and roundabout scaryiness in my my bs s4 avant where at normal speeds i iam turning in and losing all traction ..almost like iam driving on ice leftb and side, it breaks away without warning ..is it a tyre issue?? it is evident when entering a corner / roundaout off throttle is this normal..

What tyres are you running?
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Also, what pressures are they?

Are they in at best at least axle-matched pairs?

Are they the correct load and speed index?

Finally, how old are the tyres? They should have a four-digit code which determines when the tyres were manufactured - something like 5109 - the first two digits are the week, the second two are the year - so 5109 would mean they were made the 51st week of 2009. If they are older than 6 years old - bin them.

It's a bit like asking why one has a STD results list as long as a Tesco receipt following a week long stag do in Amsterdam.....

Seriously, remove the ditch finders and stick a set of decent rubber on there, Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 definitely being the forum choice

Mine came with different tyre model / tread Dunlops front and rear, never felt right. Asymmetric 2s TRANSFORMED the car and turned it into the car I'd always wanted it to be

God knows what yours feels like with Chinas worst on the back!

Dads now running Goodyears on his Sportback, same 225/45/17 as the B5 S4, they wear well across the tread, firm sidewalls, shoulders don't seem to wear too badly, keep an eye on tyre pressures

so the eagles are on £97 a corner at Wembley Tyres and feel much better ..just wait for some wet roads ..abs ecu ..to tackle next ..reading the owners manual it states that the rear under heavy braking can break away sideways ..great!
