Interior Door Handles - B5 Cars - help needed!

Post by DavidT » Thu Sep 28, 2006 11:50 am

I have an issue with the drivers interior door handle. It clicked when I opened the door and is now a little wobbly.

I read on a forum somewhere that it is broken and a part needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know what it is please ?

I'm off down to the dealer at lunchtime today and would like to get one.

Thanks in advance

David

David, the best way might be to take the door panel off and have alook whats broken or come away? It only takes few minutes to remove the whole door panel.

Thanks guys, that diagram looks complicated :(

I will remove the panel and take the broken bit to the local dealer.

Could be that the door 'trigger' retaining spring has popped off. Mine was loose when I bought the car as the spring was missing. I guess if it has popped off you may be able to find it inside the door and put it back on.

I bought a whole replacement door trigger assembly (it comes with the tweeter speaker holder as well) from VAG Parts and it was only around £20 from memory.

The door card is simple to remove, I've never owned a car where it's been so easy. One screw at either end at the top and one behind the pull handle. Then it just lifts off, taking care with all the electrical connections of course.

David, Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

I heard a twang from my drivers door handle today... it's now a little looser than the passenger one :(

Thanks
Mark

Nope, keep meaning to, but have not got around to it yet.

Well, I finally got around to doing this little job, lazy arse that I am

Dead easy really, you just remove the interior handle & door panel, then remove & replace the interior handle.

It is the handle spring that breaks, but the fixing wears also, I got an ebay RS4 handle new (thanks MarkB :) ) and swapped the bits over as you can get it all apart no problem :)
