I watched that other night and felt a little light headed! I can see why a lot of garages won't work on these.
After watching it I'm 100% certain I wouldn't do it myself

Cheers, will give it a watch. Will be doing a manual conversion on mine this year....
Re: Engine removal YouTube video
I just did that on mine this weekend and let me tell you, I would rather brake it for parts than do ot again

Re: Engine removal YouTube video
Really, why was it so bad?
Re: Engine removal YouTube video
Seized bolts, pipes, everything old and fragile... I had to cut the oil cooler lines to remove them to avoid damaging thread on oil cooler, every bolt holding exhaust/turbo/manifold had to be heated up with flame.... Luckily, all O rings still can be ordered in Audi. Gearbox sent to repair, turbos, tomorow tooth belt and everything that goes with it, chain tensioner shoes, brake calipers refurbish....list goes on and on and on....
Re: Engine removal YouTube video
Next one has gone live. Blimey. Seems like TPS can get everything so far that is needed so that's good. I'm now wondering what condition mine would have been had it been taken to bits!

Brilliant videos. Very informative.
Just watched the super Ron video Hats off to anyone that diy this job.
No way would I attempt that.
However if you are capable and you do it yourself. At least you know it’s been done properly and handled with care.
Ps. What a crap exhaust manifold design.

Part 3.
This is mostly mending a lot of the issues. Cam tensioners are interesting looking units. Sliders seem to get grooved and chewed. I'm assuming the black plastic pipe right inside the engine is the Bufkin. Also features the classic bastard bolt.

This set of videos has come literally 6months just too late for me! He's pretty much done exactly what im pretty much finished up doing now. So informative.
Re: Engine removal YouTube video
Yes am really enjoying watching them. Perfect heads up on what I have to look forward to. Non of it looks especially hard once the engine is out.
Well worth doing all the preventative stuff once it's out the car

It’s not “that” bad. I removed mine 3 times on axle stands in my garage. There’s a lot to undo etc, but just follow the service manual and you’ll be fine. Used to take me a day to get the engine and box out. Could have done it quicker on a lift, I am sure.

Next video available. Turbo rebuilds didn't go as easily as hoped. Managed to get all the parts needed again. Lots of the pulleys are after market as NLA by audi. EGTs are right on the back and inaccessible with engine in. One of the lambdas also if my single brain cell has remembered correctly. Other lambda you can get at from underneath I think.

Re: Engine removal YouTube video
Final part. It all goes back in. The dodgy bit of wiring was for the SAI as there is a block of wiring under a cover that you can't get back in if you take it out. Didn't know there were little grommet cut offs in the bulk head so you can pass new wires through without chewing up other things.
If you are going to do it then the instructions in the manual he links to are essential for a having a hope in hell of getting it apart and back together correctly.
