How are you getting on Ben.
With the leak and wiring.

Has your windscreen gotta come out ?
Is the water deflector damaged ?

Hi. Thank you for your feedback.
The windscreen and water deflector are not that old so I don’t think that’s my problem. The newish water deflector has a lip that goes up and behind the windscreen.

Since learning that the scuttle drain and a/c drain share the same drain pipe.
I am guessing that a blocked ac drain would result in a build up of water spilling into the pollen filter housing. Then overflowing into the footwells.
The scuttle was dry as was the actual pollen filter.

As I say I am best guessing at the moment.

I am interested in your Passat filter cover.
Model year etc.

I'm working away from home for a couple of weeks, when I get back I'll take it out and try to get a part number off it, hopefully someone can check and find out what car it was from (I can't remember exactly as it was a while ago.

Glad you seem to have it sorted anyway.

Chris

Yeah, it’s got to have a new screen. I’m a bit worried that the pilkington screens aren’t very good quality.

This time I’ll be forewarned and forearmed so I’ll made sure they don’t do anything I’m not happy with.

The wiring is fixed. Had to remove the ECU housing and wiper motor to get access. I’ll post some pics later.

Whoever designed the plenum and water deflectors must have been an intern. Absolutely terrible design practice. Water is begging to ingress into the car through the pollen filter or ECU housing.

What anti-mouse stuff did you get? I’ve ordered some ultrasound repellers but I don’t have much hope that they’ll do anything.

Windscreens is one of those jobs that needs a competent installer who knows what they are doing.

Having the correct size screen and a water deflector in good condition also helps.

Unfortunately you cannot tell if the screen has been fitted correctly until the last bit is done. Fit the deflector.
This goes up and under the bottom edge of the screen. If installed correctly it sits flush on the screen.

On a bad deflector the lip is often broken in several places. Then water gets in.
The first time I had to replace a windscreen . I found that a bad deflector had been reinstalled. Silicon had been used on the screen to fill in the gaps where there was a broken lip.
So I would check the deflector for any missing bits along the full length.

They really are very brittle and can easily break.

Good luck Ben
Ps. I still have my original deflector which has the bits of lip missing. I think I kept it to show the installer how it is fitted.

This is the stuff I use in my garage.
They seem to like it.
I use it but as you know I don’t garage my car.

Just performed the first auto scan with the replacement CCM.
These were the only logged errors
Nothing to be concerned about.
Would be nice to have a clean scan though.
Performed a reset.
Will now wait a while and see if anything comes back.

Had a good look and feel around the front and rear nearside carpets.
All dry at the moment. I will have to keep checking for a while yet.
Need to build up some confidence.

Steve, Tapo do a water sensor that can alert you if it gets wet. You get a couple and stick them under the carpet. It’ll only alert you if it’s in WiFi range though.

I’ve got one in my garage. Occasionally a spider walking across the electrodes sets it off.

That’s good info Ben. Thank you mate.
Noticed the usual water drip marks when I pull in the drive.
That’s good news. It means that the air con drain pipe is working.
However I am Still feeling for wet patches on the front and rear carpets, until I build up my confidence.

Problem is that the water runs down the bulkhead and under the carpet into the soundproofing and electronics modules. By the time the carpet gets wet it’s already floating underneath.

You could put the sensor under the carpet next to the comfort module or TCU. Or both.

CheeRS Ben. Certainly something worth thinking about.
Any early warning, that things are getting wet, has got to be a good purchase.
Battery life 1year is good as well.

Don’t want to put the mockers on it.
Carpet is still dry. Must have been the air con drain valve.

Thank you Ben.
How’s the windscreen and the rodent problems going mate.
Fingers crossed for you.

I had two front windscreens and two rear windscreens installed when I did mine.
Rear screens exploded (twice) on mine when rear screen heater was selected. Just got really hot and exploded.
To prove a point we fitted the original rear screen and everything was back to normal. Still installed today.

Front screens had a gap at each end , due to the wrong screens being fitted.

Got there in the end. But what a pain ITA.
