I had thought he might have come with a checklist that he would go through but there was no sign of one or any structure to the whole inspection. All he seemed to have was a small scrap of paper ripped from a notebook that became more and more full as he visually checked the car. I couldn't work out from what he was doing at the time, what he was then noting - by the end of the inspection the scrap of paper was completely full of scribbles!

He advised me that as part of the inspection he had to drive the car with me as a passenger - "if that was OK". I didn't ask him what if I say no, didn't feel it would do my case any good! I did ask to see his insurance though - couldn't produce anything but said he was insured.

We then went on a short drive around the industrial estate where I work (he adjusted my seat! Argh!!). Like others commented he chatted (generally) the whole way through the drive; he also tried out all the electrical items, gave the steering wheel a shoogle from time to time; asked me if it was OK to try the kick down and took it up to around 50...
After the drive he was through the rest of the car, under the bonnet, through the interior and in the boot for around 10 - 15 minutes, leaving the engine running whilst doing so. I left him to it but watched him from the office as he went about his business but he did seem to repeat a lot of the inspection...
When he was finished I asked him what next and he said he would submit his report to WD tonight and then it was up to them if they took it on. I asked if him he'd found anything untoward. He said everything was as expected - "a car line with it's age and mileage" I think were his words.
So fingers crossed...
