Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
My DIY will replace the shorter of those 2 lines if you wish.
You could fabricate something to replace the longer line too if you need, but it’s a lot more work and a bit tight on the exit of the cooler on the LHS. If I have to replace my cooler or the longer line now, I’ll just build my own custom setup I think. Actually doing one for my LR just now….

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Grizz gave me a list of bits needed. Managed to source them all from RSCarparts.
They are not cheap (nothing is on the rs6) but really good quality and it keeps the car standard.
Hopefully get them fitted next year.
Ps I think the prices quoted are euros.
Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
4B3317815C seems to be the part no for the combined flexi to solid hose that goes from oil cooler to oil filter.
No longer available from audi but two local hydralic hose fabricators ( in Watford Herts) think they can replicate ( or replace the corroded joint)
Now just got to get them off and put them to the test.
I'll let you knoe how I get on.

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
But for anyone else these are the parts I recently had fitted they were bought from RS Carparts in Germany.
My apologies.
Didn’t realise that I had posted the info previously.
Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Fingers crossed the oil cooler end comes undone without destroying the thread on the cooler, if it does there’s a good looking secondhand one for sale on eBay at the moment.
Here’s a couple of pics of when I did mine, I managed to get all the pipes from Audi except one which I sourced from RS Carparts Germany and the fit was really good and it came with the fixings to keep it tidy. I know Ricky at Pirtek Watford he’s a good guy and always happy to help

Steve thanks for your help.
Riggs, thanks for your help too.
It was Pirtec that I’ve been talking to, they do a lot of work for the classic Merc garage that my family mechanic works at, so hoping he can get it apart undamaged.
I was wondering if a fully flexi pipe could be used, your photos suggest the answer is yes.

Hi Ric
Yes the one I fitted is fully flexible, if I remember correctly the pipe has an angle on the end where it goes onto the oil filter housing. I still have my old ones just in case and also managed to get all of mine off bar one without them destroying the threads but i reckon I could fix it if I had too. I have to say though it is very common for them to seize onto the oil cooler fingers crossed for you. Take a look at the Rs Carparts De website and it will give you a clearer picture

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Any problems Ric. This is on standby if needed.
Fully working with no leaks when it was recently removed
Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
It's looking positive. My newphew (mechanic) got the old pipe off without damaging anything!
Also sent anti roll bar off for powder coating.
Pirtek (Watford) have done a great repair job, attaching new flexi hose to solid pipe ( £106)
For info they say they could copy the solid pipe for approx extra £20 or do whole thing in flexi for approx £140.
Which is similar to RS carparts oem replacement (but without the bracket), so it looks like we have a few options.
Hoping it all goes back together, I'd rather like to use the old girl whislt we still have some summer left!
Was pleased to see that this was the only pipe showing any sign of corrosion. The guys in Pirtek suggested that it might have been caused by water running downfrom the oil filter and getting trapped in the joint, suggested a bit of silicone around the joint??
Thanks one again for all of you who have helped.

That looks rather sexy. And a great option for the future, for members who need a repair.
Nice one Ric and thank you for sharing.

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Job well done by Ricky and his team at Watford. They’ve just got me out of trouble with an old Xj6 Jag PAS pipe and oil cooler pipe as well.
Pleased you got it sorted and give your nephew a pat on the back for getting the pipe off without it damaging anything

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Maybe not the result I was hoping for.
On closer inspection it appears the diameter of the bore on the new flexi is 10mm compared with 13mm on the original, which my my maths means about 40% less area. Unless the oil flows faster I pressume this would be less flow and maybe changed oil pressure, so not sure if it's sensible to use .
Would welcome any thoughs. Thanks.
Back to Pirtek tomorrow and if they can't come up with a better solution, looks like I'll have to order from RS car parts. At least they are back in stock.

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
Ric. I went down to the garage the other day. Spoke to the mechanic that worked on my car.
I was informed that I have all of the hoses that were removed from my car.
He said that he screwed some of the hoses together to keep them safe.
I will look tomorrow and report back. This may be ok for a short fix.
But as you know. I would always advise buying new if at all possible, and while they are available.

Re: Please identify these rusty pipes.....
There is a chap currently rebuilding a crashed damaged RS6 C5 on YouTube - he managed to get a Shop to fabricate exact copies of the the hard pipes. Might be worth getting in touch.
