Xenon self levelling sensors - Help please

Post by GardinerG » Wed Nov 07, 2007 12:56 pm

Could you guys with VAG-COM do me a big favour? I'm getting some funny probs with the Xenon Self Levelling system, probably in relation to the rear level sensor (nearside rear wheel arch).

What I need is a comparison for voltages on the level sensors when the car is on a level surface:
Module 55, Measuring blocks 002. DON'T USE Basic Settings unless you want a recallibration! ;-)

Code: Select all

Friday	2	November	2007	18:01:16
4Z7 907 357 dynamische LWR D09

Group A:	'002
       Voltage Voltage	Actuator Motor
TIME sensfront sens rear Activation
STAMP V V %
0.01	1.82 4.34 49.6
I believe the sensor readings should be between 1.6 and 3.5V normally.

Looks like the rear sensor reading is too high - when I jack the car up I can recallibrate the Xenons, but not normally. I suspect it's a dodgy sensor, but it could be just that it's running too low with the KW.

If anyone has a pic of the rear sensor (nearside) pic (preferably with the wheel on the ground). It's visible from under the left exhaust tip.

Cheers!

Grant

Happy to help with the picture Grant, if only I knew what exactly I was looking for under the car. Any pointers and I 'll snap away for you.

Best I can offer are these pics. I will take a proper pic and upload soon. It is linked to the rear of the rear nearside, lower suspension arm. You will see a metal link connected to a black servo like arm. IIRC it's just behind the rear left silencer.

Cheers

Yep, that's the one! Cheers Howard. Mine is quite a bit up on that. I will have to take a pic and post it. It proves the point that when stock the black bar is almost horizontal. You don't have VAG-COM do you?

Thanks for your help! IOU :beerchug: !

Does anyone have the Voltage readings?

Forgot to mention the car is on a slight downward facing driveway, will that effect the angle of the balck bar? If so i can move the car and take another piccy

No I'm afraid I don't have VAG.com (keep meaning to get a copy though)

should be between 0.5 to 4.5v for the level sensors.

if there is an issue with the range of the sensors, it should throw a code into the module 55

Hi Skiwi, thanks for that. There are currently no errors stored, however after getting the car back from the suspension work I had:
00774 - Level Control System Sensor; Left Rear (G76)
28-10 - Short to Plus - Intermittent
00776 - Level Control System Sensor; Left Front (G78)
28-10 - Short to Plus - Intermittent

I put this down to the work, as when I reset the codes things were ok. Now it's dark I noticed the real problem was that the headlamps were always pointing fully down so I tried to move the lamps to the adjustment position and check them. But I can't cuz I get "error" when going to basic settings in group 001. When I jack the rear of the car up, I can. This just means that the lights will be pointing more down than they should be and that the Full beams point slightly up.
The values I gave (range 1.6-3.5 for callibration) were from Ross-Tech's label files, so I am wondering who is correct? I guess the acceptable range for in motion would be different to that when "level" for setting.

Hmmm, I've taken a pic of the rear sensor and will upload it soon.

Hmmm, well I've been looking at the pic of my rear sensor and it looks like the sensor itself is pointing down/not straight:

I will have to get the wheel off and have a closer look!

P.s. the leak is from the now unused DRC pipes. ;-)

Did you ever get a fix for this? I have been able to adjust my xenons in the past with no problem but this week it won't allow me to store the new position. I too am on KWv3s that are less than 10mm lower than stock.

Here are my readings...

What are your actual symptoms? Are you getting the "headlight range not set" error message when you start the car?

Had an issue with mine, kept getting a warning on the dash. The wires as below had a nick in them which caused an intermittent fault?!.. Had to have a really good look to spot..

I can move the light level with no issue. When I then try and get the computer to store this postion I get the error so then that throws that headlamp warning which is annoying me.
