My first Audi.... and I did it properly!!

Hi All

Picked up my first Audi a few weeks ago and I did it right with a C5 RS6. Before this my car history has been mostly Japanese, small engine big turbo stuff. Very different experience having a big engine and small turbos.

Car is in pretty good shape. Needs some rear discs and pads which I picked up yesterday and will fit at the weekend. And I need to get busy with the wiring for the sat nav as it appears someone has retrofitted a later unit and not done the best of jobs....

I will put it out at the weekend and see if I do a bit of a better job. CD player works and the disc changer. And it runs through the bose system properly. But it doesn't turn on and off with ignition and the sat nav doesn't find a signal and Bluetooth doesn't want to be found. Hopefully a nice easy fix.

You'll be looking a very long time for bluetooth - wasn't available from the factory with the RNSD unless I am very much mistaken, and is extremely rare even on the 2004 onwards RNSE

Interesting wheels, D2 Finals?
You can get a bluetooth module for the RNSE, although you might be better just upgrading to an aftermarket double DIN, something from Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer et al.

Ah now that explains that one! Thanks. The unit I have is the RNS-E 2010 so has the phone. But explains why the Bluetooth doesn't work. Aftermarket Bluetooth module it is then. And I have solved the problem of the GPS not finding satellites. It came with a different antenna plug and they didn't bother to adapt it. Again nice easy fix.

All that remains then is it not seeing an ignition live signal (or not reacting to it)....

Not sure on the wheels. Someone on Facebook suggested they were off a later model RS4. They are 20". I like the way they look but they do rub so I am going to lift the car up slightly when I am next under there. Its on Bilstein C/O so should be easy enough. I did think about going aftermarket but I like the factory look so would rather get this one working properly.

Look like A8 wheels (although possibly a later model than the D2 if they’re 20’s?)

I wonder if they need spacers to fill the ‘6’s arches - and if so, you could get away with smaller spacers to resolve the rubbing?

D2 S8 Final Edition came with 9jx20. Very rare wheels. I think the D3 10 spoke 20s were 9.5j and an off-set that didn't work for the C5RS. Where are the tryes rubbing? What profile/width are the tyres?

The RNS-D is utter poo. You can retrofit a 2010 A3/TT RNS-E headunit, it's got faster OS, 3D maps, Bluetooth etc. It'll look OEM as the C5RS6+ came with RNS-Es, I've got an E in mine. Mr.Footlong has a 2010 in his if memory serves me. Do a search.

Thanks for the info chaps. I will get a better picture of the wheels later and pop it up here.
They only rub on full lock (outside edge on the arch) so 10mm higher and it should cure it.
I think it came with RNS-D as standard and someone has fitted the 2010 'E' to it. I found a proper fitting kit for £70 and then a cheap ebay harness for £10 which only included the main plugs so I'm fairly sure they have cheaped out and done a half-a***d job. I'm an electro-mechanical engineer by trade so I should be able to work it out with a bit of fiddling. But I think I will be looking at an aftermarket Bluetooth module by the sounds of the above. That being said I doubt I will use the phone connection anyway. The only reason I want to sort it is my OCD telling me that everything should work properly!! I will find out more when I pull it out tomorrow.

It'll probably need the speed sensor spliced in properly and there's another wire for proper shut-down. Do a search on here, it'll explain everything.
