This is driving me mad.....

Post by Coxall8395 » Tue Dec 21, 2010 11:33 pm

When my rns-e unit gets hot I am getting the following message:

DVD unreadable or
not properly inserted.

So I take the disc out. Replace - still the same

So I get the second of the genuine 2007 Audi discs and put that in.

Invariably that works, but sometimes I still get same message.

So I try an audio CD and sometimes that works and sometimes it doesnt

Then I might use the CD lens cleaner and you guessed it sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.

What the hell is going on here?? Weak laser? Anyone had identical problems and found a fix?

Who can change the lasers on these things??

You can get spares from members rabbit or Haaggie on www.audiforum.us - one is in Belgium and the other in The Netherlands.

It's the laser itself - it gets weaker with time and becomes unable to read the second layer on the map DVD, but can still read CDs which are only single layer.
