Looking good Doug!

I did it another way as per a guide which I found.

Basically move some pins around on the grey instrument cluster connector (IIRC) and then on the radio connector side.

Let me know if your still stuck and I'll dig out the guide.

The old RNS-D did not use can-bus from the instrument cluster, so you are going to have to tap into the infotainment can-bus wires in the cluster. I cannot remember which wire is can-high & can-low, but I can get you the information if your stuck

i already have wires connected in both those positions i nthe instrument cluster - so is it a case of splicing into them? the guides i have seen have not already had those pins there

Yeh if you wish you can splice into them, and then bring the wires down to the RNS-E, and connect them where appropriate on your adapter harness

Looks great but I still say it needs the heater panel also.

I see you have a happy helper :D

he's happy - but a helper? not sure about that!

if you change the ashtray to the standard plastic from a a4 it would look more normal - getting the controal panal piano'd would be nice but too much £££££. i can live with what it is now - the heaters don't bother me.

Looks good Doug. Did you get it working ok? I know we went through quite a bit to get it working on my RS4, but it was a long time ago now so have forgotten exactly what! Mine is only slightly modified to make it fit and it has the side gaps but to be honest is looks OEM and nobody has ever asked me if it was a retro-fit.

I bought the clock fix module too and also a unit to display boost pressure etc in the DIS.

I think that out of all of the sat nav systems in different cars that I have the RNS-E is the best, pariculalry with the latest firmware and the traffic warning working. The re-routing due to traffic is excellent.

The only problem that I couldn't ever sort properly was the speaker that the routing came out of. Despite changing the settings in VAGCOM the lady only every spoke out of the right rear speaker! It's ok actually cos that actually puts the voice in your right ear anyway! TBH, I turned the voice guidance off as the in dash DIS directions are excellent.

That's a common side effect of the "VIM hack".

Have a read of the thread on www.navplus.us - there appears to be a way round it by going through several different versions of the SW upgrade...
