3 beeps when started from cold

Post by david7m » Fri Oct 09, 2009 9:51 am

Hello

This has started now the morning temps have dropped, would prob happen in the evening too if I went out ;) Only does it the first time you start from cold, nothing comes up on the dash.

Any ideas?

2001 S3.

Yep - the battery in the alarm needs replacing.....at least that's the common thing when you hear three beeps.

Cheers Scotty

Battery in the key fob? Sounds like the beeps are coming from the boot, ie not the horn. If it is the battery, is it a simple battery out fob, new one in, or is it more involved than that?

It's the battery for the car alarm which is in the boot (near the sub I think). As far as I can remember, it's not a straightforward job to replace it .... search around. Very common!

It will be in the nearside rear quart in the boot. If you have Bose it's under the sub. You have to cut open the alarm and change the batt's. You have to do a mod cause you can't get the same batts anymore.
I've just looked for the write up that i followed but i can't find it now.
Don't laeve it too long cause the leaked acid will scrap the pcb.

Cheers Chunky.

The write up would be great if you can find it. What batteries do I need?

If you cut it open with a junior hacksaw you can take the batts out and go to maplins to match them up. You won't get the exact ones but you'l find some that will work. Will keep looking for the write up.

Around £80 for a new one from Audi, if you don't want to cut it up!

the alarms use a coin battery, which you won't find anymore. So you need to buy two pcb mounted batteries from an electrical supplier such as maplin, solder them together and make the connections to the old battery terminals.

If the PCB is shagged (acid corrosion), forget it!
Why do they call it rush hour when nothing moves!?!

Standard S4, but not for long.

most probably a cr3032 lithium watch battery or similar size they cost £3.99.my siren is sat beside on the shelf in my computer room i removed it six months ago when it died, poeple just ignore a car alarm when it goes off anyway and i never leave my s4 anywhere unsafe for very long so can do without untill i have some spare cash, you should test each sensor to see if it sets the alarm off, only one of my interior monitors was working when i checked mine,
