Wanted: Tool to remove valves and springs

Post by viperbl » Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:35 pm

I need to get hold of the tool to remove and fit the intake and exhaust valves/springs on my rs4 and 2.4 heads ...

Does anyone have any that I can buy/borrow or know where I can get some??

Cheers,
Rich.

on second thoughts - what are you doing with the heads? and are they new 2.4 heads?

Plan is to use the 2.4 heads on the engine instead of the RS4 heads ... they are second hand, just trying to clean them up, get the valves/springs etc out, going to get stronger springs for them ... maybe a new cam if I can afford it ...

i would advise you to get the heads pressure tested and if you are doing that just send the heads off to a good machine shop to do all the work (pressure test, check guides, replace seals, check guides, recut the seats, and just check everything!) the last hing you wnat ot do is putit back together and a small thing means pulling hte engine again! You will need to use a machine shop for getting your crank balanced to your rods anyway.

I hear you, good advice Doug thanks ... I have a machine shop already sorted to do the balance, so I will see if they can also do the heads ...

Is it just a standard tool I need to remove the valves/springs etc then? at least I can get all the stuff out so I can get it cleaned up ... got a nice friend that said I can use his dishwasher to clean then

A standard tool will work if you get the small adapter for the small intake valves with it.

until you get the tool you can remove the valve springs by getting a socket that is the size of the spring caps..then using an extension on the socket place the socket over the spring and hit it with a hammer..the spring will compress quickly and release the collets..it will work and the spring wont fly up and smash you or anything..and no you wont damage anything..

Rich, can I move this to the Tuning & mod forum now ? contents seem more relevant for there.
