Carbon inlet manifolds....
Any interest in these?
Also thinking about designing and building a single piece intake pipe from the MAF into the turbo's...any interest?
Both for any S/RS model?
Am willing to put the time into development and mould making but only if the interest is sufficient.

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
Are you looking at a copy of oem intake manifold in carbon Rob, or something a bit tricker?

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
I would think you would need a good unstanding of CFD to do this properly.

I am qualiifed in thermofluids and hydrodynamics so can have a good stab at this. As I'm going to be making the components myself, the costs to me are not so high, if it don't work I can re-tool and re-make without having to pay someone else to. That should keep my R&D costs down to a bare minimum.

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
Is it going to provide any reasonable gain, though? The propshafts I understand - inlet manifold.. not so. Can you explain how this would provide a reasonable benefit? Is there anything else you could think of that would benefit from being made form CF that would be likely to provide a better benefit?

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
There must be some kind of gain as most race cars use CF inlet systems.... either for weight saving or keeping the air colder and more dense.

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
I think initially it is a weight saving exercise (and less heat soak for cooler/denser air) although if you are smart with the design of the moulds, you can get much better and more direct airflow. Its all about understanding the fluid dynamics. As for the increased gains....who knows. Time will tell. I would expect initially that the weight would be the immediate benefit coupled with better heat control. How much does a "normal" cast intake manifold weigh?
Initially I'd like to just create a copy that works to understand the pressures, then it is a pure R&D exercise to get the fluid dynamics right. I going to work with MRC if they will let me, to make a few parts and work with them on the development......

RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
I'm interested, depending on cost.
Also fatter intake pipework down to the turbo inlet, if you want some ideas?!?

S4 - no longer missing 1 engine. Last seen leaving trailing black lines of gearbox oil.
RE: Carbon inlet manifolds....
maybe we should do one of our dual throttle body inlet manifolds in CF - i'll talk to you about this next week rob.

Now it's been mentioned, I've been wanting to ask about that since you pointed out the second throttle body on your car. I've been resisting the urge to ask about it until you mentioned it in public.

That has been on my car for a few months to test the software and hardware mods we need to run 2 throttle bodies on the standard ecu. I'll be running a dual throttle body manifold in the next few weeks. Would be nice to do it in carbon as well!

this all sounds -SWEET-
rob. keep me informed. also is it not pos to make the apr pipe in carbon. better than crappy ali cast. and probably the same price...
