Snub Mount fitted to my RS4

Post by Nige_RS4 » Wed Jan 03, 2007 2:12 pm

After reading all the posts about the DTS, I was about to take the plunge and order one .... then my thermostat decided to play up, so during it's replacement I decided to fit a new snub mount (thanks Patrick aka Golich).

I can report a noticable improvement during gear changes, much less shunting when on/off the throttle (slow moving traffic) and the whole gear change feels much tighter / slicker.

If anyone is still undecided about fitting an DTS, then the snub mount is an excellent alternative, and much more cost effective, especially if you fit it yourself!

I'm not saying the snub mount is better than a DTS, becuase I have no personal experience with the DTS, but you can read an independant test here .... http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng29.shtml

Anyways, during my quest for a snub mount at short notice, I've ended up with a spare one - yours for a mere £30!

Send me a pm if you're interested.

I have had one fitted to my car along with RS4 engine mounts and a DTS... and to be honest its a bit too much now. I get a lot of drivetrain shunt through the car when coming on and off throttle... its maybe a little too harsh... then again maybe as the mounts loosen up with time it will become very comfortable.

Where can you get one and how much are they?

Cheers

Or just adjust the snub mount bracket so it is hard down on the original rubber mount. You can get diffenent brackets so it is a tight fit into the poly snub mount.

snub mount is at the front of the engine bolted to the block - and it is locates in a round holed bracket that is bolted to the front panel. Now you can move that bracket down to push hard on the rubber/polymount and it stops the engine lifting under load. the rubber will always give a bit more play than a poly mount but you can still need to pull the bracket down hard to stop any knock. You can get diffentt brackets that make it all a tight fit. As long as th bracket is down hard I doubt it is worht it.

I've just had the snub mount fitted and it has transformed the car for me. I now no longer get that engine bang when changing down a gear to go for it. For years I've been forced to match the engine RPM with the speed and gear. It really made the car feel sloppy and its really bugged me. Now its all gone!

I have the DTS fitted too (and for some time) but I found it did very little.

Now my RS is running like it should have from day one. Which after a set of new tyres, front dampers and the RS6 brakes is making it very difficult to find fault to justify buying a B7 RS4. She's running so sweet I'm in love again and all this on a stock hp........

I had a poly snub mount fitted during my recent K04 conversion - i also have the DTS (a great piece of kit in my experience) - also adjusted the snub mount bracket so it's as hard down as i could possibly get it (this was prior to the poly snub mount being fitted) - all in all i get no play whatsoever: car feels really tight and together.

How does the APR snub mount compare to the 034 one? Thinking about order the APR one as it will be easier to get hold of?
