RS4 Intercoolers on an S4

Post by rweir » Tue Mar 02, 2004 5:31 pm

Guys,

I have had KO4's etc installed on my S4 and a custom map done. Now I am considering installing some RS4 intercoolers and RS4 air intake on the S4. Would I be able to do this ok and not get a custom map done straight away?

What I am hopeing for is a little extra power maybe but also to keep everything in better working order, ie, cooler with more air.

So if I do the above work, I will be able to quite happly continue motoring along and get a custom map done again a few months down the line to make use of the changes? I am not going to break anything or reduce life spans of any items by doing this?

Cheers,
Rich.

You should be fine running the RS4 intercoolers until you get another re-map.

I had RS4 intercoolers fitted to my S4 which had had the KO4 conversion by AmD.

IIRC the ECU wasn't remapped but the car felt smoother. Only trouble was that the dyno plot showed 10BHP less - probably because of the temperature.

It was quite a long job too as they had to squeeze the larger IC's into the space occupied by the smaller S4IC.s and custom make the piping.

Worth doing though.

To much work cutting to make the RS4 intercoolers to an S4, an having a custom set made that are bigger than RS4 but will fit alot easy to the car. will be done this month.

The RS4 intercoolers will fit an S4 without cutting anything major. You just need to trim the bumper slightly and do some minor work to the ducts. I may be selling some brand new ones soon so let me know if you are interested. If you are running K04's and higher boost than standard, you will see benefits from the intercoolers.

APR do a kit to adapt up from the S4 pipework to the RS4's. There are 4 pipes, you will need this as well if you have standard S4 pipework and intercoolers at present.

Thanks, I will prob get the work done at an 'APR' garage anyway so that should not be a problem.

Cheers
