Tired Springs?

Post by DickyC » Mon Jan 19, 2009 9:33 pm

Are springs getting tired are common thing? Only - you know me, I may be imagining it - but she seems to be sitting a little low at the back.

The car that is, not the Countess.

Springs tend to 'sit' a bit after years of fatigue.I was told by a specialist shop that it is usually 15mm lower after some years. However my car sits lower although my springs have been replaced with new OEM 4 years ago,so this more or less happens quite fast.

If you realise however that the car only sits lower at the back,i would suspect faulty shocks as well,as the OEM shocks are easily damaged or worn and their rebound goes down easily.WHen i replaced mine with bilsteins, the car was actually lifted higher than the OEM appearance, and after about 5000kms it came back down to it's original height(after the shocks had been worked on a bit)

i was told that tired springs have no effect on the car's stability.it is normal fatigue and it wont create any problems(otherwise, every 5 years or so we would be replacing springs!!)

I have a used set that i modified to sit 15mm lower than original, heat treated and repainted.I havent put them on yet,but i will at some point to see differences

No, it wasn't the stability or anything, it's just the look of the car. It just looks as if it has sagged a bit.

Or has half a tonne of spuds in the back, that sort of thing.

If it was low at the front as well it would look better...

Stop, stop! I take it to see the man.

Other than that, it's behaving very well. All that money thrown at it last year did the trick.

Hello Angus, how's things? How's life beyond the RS2?

There's a bit of a do down your way on the 8th of Feb if you fancy it. Tom, Al and I are all pencilled in. You are welcome to ride shotgun in mine. With the shocks on their way, it would be better balanced with two :D

PM me for details if you can do it.
