Water deflectors

Post by jerseypaul » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:52 pm

When I got the car there was a water deflector cable tied to the front wishbones. They fill the gap where the front driveshaft enters the wheel arch area. I have learned they were not fitted at the factory - fitted during PDI. Mine started fouling the wheel the other day so got underneath and had a proper look. Has everyone still got these fitted? and are they cable tied in place? CHeers.

Its an air deflector to cool the brakes. Its on all cars secured by rivet at one end and clip at the other. It can act as a water deflector if you hit surface water at speed. Blind bend at 60mph IIRC. The plastic inner clip dislodged at one end after soaking the clutch plates & seizing them. Thankfully they unseized with a jolt !!!!!! :D

btdt - if you hit deep water at speed then these brake cooling deflectors might come loose. I did mine shortly after getting the car and wondered what this scraping sound coming from the underside of the car was. In my case the clip had come loose from the wishbone.

Looks like these were never fitted correctly.
No rivet or bracket visible - These have had holes drilled in them to allow cable ties to secure them.

Thanks for the responses.
They sound like a bit of an afterthought.
Will have a go at securing them with bigger cable ties later.
