I need a new instrument cluster !!!

Post by prof » Sat Dec 03, 2005 4:35 pm

The guys fitting my ICE have arsed up the install and cracked the perspex on the instrument cluster.

Where can i get a second hand one for an RS4 or will a normal A4 one fit ??

the guys have not charged me for the ICE or the install, so if I can pick up a cluster for sensible money, I'm quids in.

also, will I have to get AUDI to reprogramme in the correct mileage or is this stored in the ECU ???

thanks,

prof

You can get the cover without al the clocks... how did they manage to wipe the mileage, usually only can be done through Obd port
The other question there lies, what did they install ice with.......... No 7 hammer and Size 11 work boots???????????????

You may have trouble getting one second hand. Normal A4 dashes may fit but dont go up to 200mph!!
The replacment is exchange from the dealer priced at (8D0 920 981X) £394+ vat. You will need to get this recoded by the dealer as you need the 16 digit skn number. It will lock out the ecu every time you attempt to start.

Second hand dashes are not an option unless you can find one with the same mileage as your car. Once a mileage has been coded to a dash thats it, its there for good. unless of course you choose to use one of these "mileage correction" characters that stuff up the ecu anyway!!!
If it aint broke then dont try to fix it!

philipwalker,

are you saying that even if I can find a seconhand one, the ECU will not recognise it until it is recoded by AUDI ???

So basically my options are :-

Get a replacement screen.

Source a seceondhand unit and maybe get it recoded if this is required to make it work.

thanks,
prof

you forgot the 3rd option.... Make the ICE company sort it out! They must have some sort of insurance?

I dont think Audi supply replacement screens but will find out tomorrow for definate. I havnt ever done it but i've looked at enough dashes and it may be possible to strip it down and just use the screen from a second hand dash.
Just in case you do choose the new option Audi charge an hours labour to fit and reprogramme a dash. Its all now done over the internet.

You can buy a second-hand one, and switch the cluster.
Because i think that only the inside instruments are different.

You could use the binnacle of the A4 or buy one from Audi, as the clocks will separate from the clocks them selves.
