Rebuild RS4 gearbox?

Post by DamoM » Tue Jan 18, 2011 3:30 pm

With the power that's going through my gearbox it's no surprise that it's started to give up the ghost a bit. Idler shaft is very noisy, bit of a crunch 1st to 2nd and sometimes baulks going into first.

Question is whether it's worth picking up a 2nd hand unit off of a standard car or whether anyone has experience of getting one rebuilt (if indeed this is economically feasible)? :?

Loads of info on this over on AudiSRS. General consensus seems to be "buyer beware" when buying a 2nd hand box as many of them have worn synchros and/or whine. JHM do a full rebuild kit including the uprated synchro kit. It's not cheap to do a proper job though.

Thanks for that. Had a quick look for JHM but couldn't find anything? :?
