Intake problem

Post by Sql_RS4 » Sat Jul 10, 2010 3:14 pm

Just got back from 1/4 mile event here in Poland.

Decided to have a go just to see how my last 60 hp gain looks time-wise...

And got nicely dissapointed.

Stage 2, 280 hp DSG Scirocco 2.0t gave me a hard time!

Every gear above 5k rpm lacked boost, totally! Everything was perfect till 5k and then just nothing, gear up, ok till 5 k rpm then nothing again.

Hood up and this is what happened:

First thought - clogged air filter, but it was replaced 3 months ago, checked - OK.

What do you think could have caused this? Any experiences?

Maybe just a 10 year old rubber part that didn't like 35-38C outside temp combined with temp under the hood?

You think I should replace it with OEM or maybe there is something else available from Samco and the like?

Thanks in advance!

Is it possible the engine has rocked alot under hard acceleration and the pipe has hit the bulkead and caused the damage?? Worn/tired engine mounts could cause this maybe?

I was thinking the same but I have custom race engine mounts so I do not think there is a chance it could be the problem.

the heat causes the plastic to go soft when you are waiting in a que, get a less restrictive air filter and like i said a silicone coupler.
