RS6 Turbos - Max Boost

Post by rs-mad » Fri Feb 08, 2008 1:14 pm

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone can tell me the max boost that they have found they can run with a pair of RS6 turbos (not hybrids) while maintaining efficency?

TIA

You should ask max mass airflow, because basically the boost doesn't mean anything. Then you can compare boost if the engine is totally same, and also the hot side of the turbo. Because the pressure comes from restriction, if the engine flows freely, you can't get boost at all, but the air mass is big.

No, sorry. You have to read the RS6 compressor map and calculate.

From the RS6 turbo: K04-29 map whilst keeping the efficiency >70% or better

max pressure ratio: 2.7 @ 0.155 m3/s airflow by volume @ max shaft speed 167,000 rpm
ie max boost 25 psi

max flow rate: 0.175 m3/s airflow by volume @ pressure ratio 2.21 @ shaft speed 156,000 rpm
ie around 200 g/s (or 400 g/s for two , or even 510 bhp)

If you forget about the efficiency, run the compressors off the map, and deal with the heat, on my S4 heads / intake / exhaust combo the RS6 turbos could make 613.93 bhp assuming VE of my combo doesn't change from current (in reality it would).

It's all numbers and theory, and I could have got it wrong on my scrap of paper!. You're probably better off fitting them and measuring EGT, exhaust manifold pressure and intake temp. Stop when one of these gets too high.
S4 - no longer missing 1 engine. Last seen leaving trailing black lines of gearbox oil.

I got 480 on the maf from memory!
Low egts, intakes and healthy timing. No water injection.
The turbos will go more but may not last or be as efficient.
Car did 518 bhp@TW with 1.9 P to 1.5 RL in 3rd.
Loving it, shreds rear tires in 3k too.

What car do you have? 518hp is that Flywheel or Wheels?

'TW' = The Wheels.

What memories we have. That big moment an the medium shekane at the end of the straight. That was good fun. Supercharged fiberglass buckets are definitely quick. You did the right thing though. What fun.
